The Mercury Sable has been a dependable car. This car was purchased new, and we have traveled in it extensively. We have only had to repair it once, and that was something to do with the computer. Considering how long we've had it, that's pretty good. We like the fact that it's a V8 engine. Nothing is more frustrating than to try to merge onto an interstate and your car doesn't accelerate fast, like a V6 engine does. This car has some get up and go.
Story
My mother borrowed this car and turned it into a party mobile for a group of retired school teachers. That car has hit every casino on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Pros
The number one top pro to this car is the V8 engine. Regular maintenance and we expect will get many more miles out of this car. Pro number two is the car is very roomy. My kids are very tall, and even the back seat has plenty of leg room for my giant kids. Pro number three is the car is very dependable, regular maintenance and next to no repair bills. It has been economical.
Cons
The resale value on this car is very low. It has not kept its value. The fabric upholstery stains easily and is difficult to clean. My daughter borrowed the car and put a car seat in the back for her toddler. Now I'm not sure I'll ever get it cleaned again. One of the kids dropped something down the vent for the defroster and the mechanic was $500 to unblock the vent.

My 2008 Mercury Sable has performed well for me in the four years I have owned it. I bought it with 72,000 miles, and it now has 125,000 miles on it. The car has given me very little trouble over the years, only having to replace the blend valve in the air conditioning system. The car is roomy, able to carry five people easily. The trunk is very large. Fuel economy is above average for a larger car, getting about 22mpg overall (27 Highway, 18 City). The leather interior is very comfortable and the heated seats are an added bonus in the winter.
Story
We drove this car from Indianapolis, Indiana to Buffalo, New York to visit a niece who was getting married and to see Niagara Falls. The roomy car made for a very pleasant trip with both of our parents riding with us. Plenty of room for luggage. The back seat was very comfy, and we all had a great time visiting to pass the time on the road.
Pros
Large, solid car. Have the ride and security of a larger car without sacrificing performance or fuel economy. Comfortable for driver and passengers. Trunk space allows two adult couples or families to travel with ample room for luggage. The car has plenty of power to merge onto freeway ramps, pass slower cars. The car stops very well. The anti-lock braking system is smooth and reliable. The price is very good for a larger car.
Cons
The car is larger, so parking and navigation in tight spaces is sometimes a challenge. While fuel economy is above average, it is not as good as some of its competitors in the large car category.
