It is comfortable but very under powered and lacking some features. The transmission is slow and sometimes clunky, but it is a good daily driver. The inside trim and amenities are all plastic and feel somewhat cheap. The layout of the controls are very comfortable and the ride is generally smooth. I have heard it described as a road trip car, and I honestly feel that is an accurate description. It is the kind of car you would expect to receive from your grandfather or father once they upgraded to something new. There are paddle shifters which you will never use and seem out of place on a car like this. The heated seats are a nice touch and there is a lot of room in the back for passengers. There are some issues with the car on a cold start that will cause it to turn over slowly. I have... (more)
Story
We have taken more trips to Amish country in that car than I can count. On one such occasion, we took the family dog with us which we never do since he gets car sick and annoying on long trips. This particular time, we bought a bag of beef jerky for the ride back home and shared it between the family. This inevitably caused the dog to have horrible gas and stink up the car for the two-hour rid... (more)
Pros
Comfortable and reliable
Cons
Under powered, cheap plastic, missing features.

This car is your dad's car. Don't get me wrong, that is not a bad thing. It has great features, excellent handling, and is a smooth ride. It is also bland, boring, and under powered. It has the all-wheel drive that you have come to expect from Subaru and with the proper tires, is unstoppable in bad weather. We have a few nasty ice and snow storms in the midwest, and this car earned its pay on several of those days by getting me to my destination unscathed. But it is not all good things about the Subaru Legacy. For what it has in handling, it is lacking everywhere else. The biggest thing is its lack of power. When merging on the highway and a slight incline, the Legacy will struggle to get up to speed in a timely manner. Also, the interior features are cheap and flimsy. The air vent con... (more)
Story
I'e taken this car all over my state for day hikes. I always bring the family dog with me, and something about cruising down a county road, windows down and your dog next to you makes you smile.
Pros
Very comfortable, good for long road trips, plenty of room (especially in the back seat), very safe especially in a head on collision, reliable.
Cons
Lacking in horsepower, slow pickup, under powered, cheap interior features, lack of updated technology.

This is easily the best vehicle I have ever owned. I am rapidly approaching 100,000 miles, and I am hopeful that I will have it for another 100,000. It handles well, has great sightlines, and no major mechanical failures in the 7 years I've owned it. I will keep this vehicle until it dies and there is no hope.
Story
My daughter is about to learn to drive and will use this vehicle and please allow to make the sign of the cross as we embark on this new phase of her life.
Pros
It handles well and maintenance is a breeze. It has great gas mileage both city and highway and has decent pep. Even after all these years, it's still a smooth and comfortable ride. Exceptional value and is consistently rated at the top of its class by Consumer Reports.
Cons
Well, it's an older vehicle so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that a newer model will have. It doesn't have a back-up camera or built-in GPS or a built-in anything in the dash. It doesn't have USB ports, although I work around that by plugging an adaptor into the lighter. So the outdated technology could be a factor if that sort of thing is important to you. It is still Bluetooth compatible so I'm able to stream music and make and accept calls on my cell phone just fine. Also this is not a sports car. It will not blow your socks off in the speed department.
