2003 Dodge Ram Van - I bet it was nice when it was brand new.

I did not know how much work this van was going to need when I bought it. It looks like it can take a lot because it was once a powerful vehicle, so its problems were hidden. It had a lot of miles but the price was right and it seemed strong and solid when I test drove it. It was a basic cargo van that someone had used for work. It had a minor accident where someone hit the rear left side. I bought it with utility shelves and cabinets inside.
Story
I actually lived in this vehicle when it was no longer drivable, and earned most of the credits for my associates while living in it.
Pros
The van had plenty of space for cargo. It was basic, no frills. I'm sure that brand new the price would have been highly competitive and I'm certain that the previous owners got their money's worth out of it. In its prime, I know this had been a great van.
Cons
I started having issues right off the bat despite the fact that when it ran, it ran great. The motor seemed strong but little things started piling up. It had weird electrical events, like lights turning off while driving down the road, and it was killing batteries despite the fact that the alternator was testing okay. It must have had a drain somewhere. The brake lines, which were obviously very long, began to rust. The rear brakes could not be depended on. As I began working on the brakes, I began to realize that despite the fact that this is one extremely common vehicle, there are small... (more)

The seats are positioned to view the road easily. The seat sits upright, which helps me keep alert and on task. This vehicle is easy to enter and exit, which is my daily favorite thing about owning these vans. I still love its versatility. I haul almost anything, inside or on top. I enjoy road trips, very similar to my college days, only with an air mattress in the rear. It towed my tent trailer for camping, and my utility trailer for neighborhood garbage runs and home improvement projects. It's a joy to pick up friends for church activities, take neighbors to senior events or grocery shopping. These vans were made for me to share!
Pros
Dependable. Versatility. Large and in charge. Safety. Doesn't have too many miles. Seats can be removed. Holds seven people comfortably. I bought it used low cost of ownership overall great investment. They are relatively inexpensive when compared to a Honda Odyssey. No transmission or engine issues so far! We're hoping to another 100,000 miles in it!
Cons
It was left outside too long and eventually the body started to rust pretty bad.

I really like my Dodge Promaster van. It has tons of room and is great for a work van. It has the ability to be outfitted in numerous ways to carry all of my work materials. I can transport ladders inside the van. I am not a very tall person, 5'7", but I can fully stand and walk from the front to the rear without hitting my head. I have no engine problems to speak of. It has a very sharp turning radius, and for a very long van, it can make extremely tight turns in little space. It comes with two captains chairs in the front and is completely open in the rear for work gear. I was able to mount a full rolling tool cabinet inside. It handles well in the city. It's a little difficult to drive on the highway because of its shear size. It gets pretty decent gas mileage. It was priced fairly ... (more)
Story
I was able to help a friend move using my van because it held everything he owned. We saved him a lot of money, and that was wonderful.
Pros
The amount of room is my favorite thing about this vehicle. I carry a large amount of tools for work, and this van enables me to have a rolling workshop.
Cons
It's often difficult to see out in all directions because there are no side windows. I have also had to replace the bulb in the front head lights multiple times now and can't figure out why they keep burning out.
