Starts out great, then look out for trouble.
The 2009 Elantra Touring started out strong, but has not held up very well through its first 90,000 miles. The features and trim on this car make it feel like a much pricier model from some of the bigger name brand competitors, but you do get what you pay for. There have been several recalls over the last few years, and frequent problems with interior finishes flaking off, leaving sharp edges, and other issues. In the last three years, this car has cost more than $3000 to maintain.

Excellent no-frills vehicle
This vehicle was purchased new in 2009 and has performed well in all areas except "excitement." If you are looking for excellent, no-frills transportation, this would be an excellent choice. If you are looking for excitement and driving exhilaration, this car would not satisfy you. The driving position is quite comfortable, and the seats are long enough for a taller person to avoid thigh fatigue. There is also plenty of headroom. Controls are easy to see and use. The sound system is decent along with the inclusion of satellite radio although the iPod feature doesn't recognize anything except my older iPod. The car itself allows a lot of road noise. The warranty is outstanding and actually came in handy when a powertrain issue surfaced at 95,000 miles. The engine is adequate, but groans on steep hills. The styling is very vanilla and not exciting, but that is not why you are buying this car. The car is roomy enough for four people and can hold five adults in a pinch. Because it is a hatchback, there is plenty of room to haul cargo. A folding bike fit in the hatch area without a problem.

Our main reason for owning this Hyundai Elantra Touring is we prefer a small station wagon over the ever popular small SUVs that are everywhere. I like that it feels like a car... a really nice, well made small sedan... instead of a small truck. The body roll is at a minimum, the ride is, well, car-like, and the performance is surprisingly good from the little 4 banger. Hyundais today are not the Hyundais of ten years ago. The build quality is first rate and the leather seats are excellent and heated! These new Hyundais are definitely worth a look if you want a good, reliable, everyday car for taking the kids to school and picking up dinner! I love the 17 inch wheels and low profile tires. Really adds to the style as well as the handling. My wife calls it her go-kart!
