Perfect for everything from community to driving the mountains.
This is an excellent vehicle for almost any need. I spend every day driving the interstate, and it is perfect for getting me to and from work every day. It has been very reliable and stable in its performance. I live in an urban, very flat area; however multiple times a year, I drive in the mountains. It is great for traveling. The size is great. It has enough room for storing luggage but isn't so big that the gas millage is affected. I am only five foot 2, but I am able to reach the snowboard racks we put on it every year which is a big plus! While we do not have kids, if I did, I would very safe having them in this car. It feels very secure and has all the hookups for car seats with extra room for any groceries or anything else you would be moving. It has most of the hookups I would want in a car. I am able to play everything from mp4 CDs to music on my phone using the stereo. The worst part of the car is that when you go to get parts for it, most people do not understand that the Touring is different than the normal Elantra. It is, at times, hard to find the specific part, and I have had many people try to sell me the wrong part. Specifically the battery is not the same; and if you get the one not for the Touring, it will not fit well. Another thing I wish it had was four-wheel drive, although I've never had any issue handling it in the snow and mountains. All in all, I have recommended this car to friends and family alike and have known one other person to purchase it since I did.

A good value
The car has been fairly reliable over the six years that I have owned it. I have driven it more than 90,000 miles and except for a major issue early on, I have not had any trouble with it. I did have to replace the transmission at around 30,000 miles, but it was covered under warranty and I have not experienced any transmission related issues since.

Starts out great, then look out for trouble.
The 2009 Elantra Touring started out strong, but has not held up very well through its first 90,000 miles. The features and trim on this car make it feel like a much pricier model from some of the bigger name brand competitors, but you do get what you pay for. There have been several recalls over the last few years, and frequent problems with interior finishes flaking off, leaving sharp edges, and other issues. In the last three years, this car has cost more than $3000 to maintain.
