2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring - A good value

The car has been fairly reliable over the six years that I have owned it. I have driven it more than 90,000 miles and except for a major issue early on, I have not had any trouble with it. I did have to replace the transmission at around 30,000 miles, but it was covered under warranty and I have not experienced any transmission related issues since.
Story
I love to drive through the mountains of Pennsylvania in the fall with the windows down and the sunroof open.
Pros
The car has some nice touches - sunroof, heating seats, fairly good gas mileage. It also has a lot of storage in the back and I have taken it on many road trips. It still looks good after 6 years - no fading of the paint, etc. The car is mostly a practical one, but I think it has a slightly sporty look to it which is hard to accomplish with a wagon. The backseat is comfortable for passengers, and my in-laws, who are in their 70's, have no issues getting in and out of the vehicle.
Cons
The first transmission failed early in the life of the vehicle. And the bulbs burn out quickly, and are expensive and difficult to replace. I've never had a vehicle go through so many bulbs before in my life. For the front lights, you have to take the battery out to gain access and many knuckles have been destroyed in the process.

We bought it because we liked the idea of a hatchback with a smaller car. The backseat is roomy, and three people can comfortably sit in the back seat. The hatchback area has plenty of space. We like that there is a piece that can cover the contents of the trunk space if you want. We have over 100,000 miles on the vehicle and have not had to do much work to it other than regular maintenance—oil changes, new brakes, etc. When we purchased the vehicle, it was also very reasonably priced—less expensive than other similar cars. We also like the look of the car—we got it in silver, and it has a nice look.
Story
Soon after purchasing this car, we took a trip out to Colorado and Utah. Our daughter was really into dinosaurs, so we stopped at as many dinosaur-related sights as possible! We were really glad to have the space but also the decent gas mileage. This also included a very memorable drive up Mt. Evans -- the scariest drive I have ever made!
Pros
We like the hatchback style and the roomier backseat (as compared to other vehicles of a similar style). The vehicle has been very reliable and was overall a very good value.
Cons
The biggest negative was the tires that it came with—we has to replace them relatively soon. We read after the fact that this is a know issue with this car. Otherwise, the only other thing I can think of is that they stopped making this model, so if we want to replace it someday, there isn't a newer option!

2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring - Excellent no-frills vehicle

This vehicle was purchased new in 2009 and has performed well in all areas except "excitement." If you are looking for excellent, no-frills transportation, this would be an excellent choice. If you are looking for excitement and driving exhilaration, this car would not satisfy you. The driving position is quite comfortable, and the seats are long enough for a taller person to avoid thigh fatigue. There is also plenty of headroom. Controls are easy to see and use. The sound system is decent along with the inclusion of satellite radio although the iPod feature doesn't recognize anything except my older iPod. The car itself allows a lot of road noise. The warranty is outstanding and actually came in handy when a powertrain issue surfaced at 95,000 miles. The engine is adequate, but groans... (more)
Story
Used the vehicle to haul several kids back and forth every year to the local amusement park for birthday parties.
Pros
Reliable! Comfortable. Controls are easy to use. Plenty of room and cargo space. Affordable. Decent music system. Excellent warranty.
Cons
Not an exciting ride. Lots of road noise. Boring styling. Fuel economy could be a bit better.
