I've owned this car for 8 years now. It currently has 90,000 miles on it and is still running strong. Only had to buy one battery since receiving the car. The body is holding up amazing. I did have someone back into me a year ago and only got a minor scratch on the bumper. I wish I could say that about the interior of the car. The interior started falling apart within the first year. The visors are broken, the middle console has fallen apart. Just horrible. It's just myself and my daughter that use the car, so it's not like it's getting a beat down from young children.

The 2005 Hyundai Sonata has been a very decent car to drive and one of my best decisions I have ever made to purchase. I enjoyed the Sonata’s handling ability when it came to rugged roads filled with cracks and craters. Most of the time I would not be able to feel a thing. Also, the vehicle could accelerate to 80 miles per hour very easily for the first five years I owned it. Unfortunately, the Sonata’s acceleration ability slowly started to dwindle to where it would take it a while to accelerate. When I purchased the car the first thing that attracted me to it was the style. A semi-long car with unique headlights was the kind of car I was looking for at the time. For eight years the car performed very well. I only had two or three issues along the way for that eight year span, however... (more)
Story
One day I was driving the car through the parking lot at a local park to play basketball. As I was going over a speed bump the children at the side started to laugh at me because they said that the car looked like it jumped ten feet in the air.
Pros
The 2005 Hyundai Sonata has a wonderful speaker system that I have enjoyed throughout the years. I enjoyed the fact that I was able to easily replace the radio with a more modern radio. The trunk space of the 2005 Hyundai Sonata is very decent. I am easily able to fit all of the materials that I need to have on me in the car for certain situations. As I mentioned before, the Sonata’s handling ability is one of the best that I have ever driven. The most important aspect about a vehicle when you first purchase it is the price. This car was fairly inexpensive. It had all the features I was lo... (more)
Cons
The 2005 Hyundai Sonata had a very bad streak in 2014 as I mentioned above. Numerous parts went bad or broke while I was driving one after the other. There was a point to where it happened three days in the road. The car broke down on me so frequently that the people at the shop knew me and the model of my car by name. In addition, the 2005 Hyundai Sonata cannot handle well in stormy weather at all. I have to drive slow when it starts to downpour because the car will hydroplane or start to drift if the driver does not have complete control over the steering. Also, over the years the car ha... The 2006 Hyundai Sonata looks like a basic four door sedan, but outperforms in nearly every way. I work for the National Park Service and took it with me on five cross-country drives without a single problem. I also lived in some crazy places and it rarely had a problem on dirt roads. The traction control was great when I was living in Colorado during the winter, only failing at the point when four wheel drive was absolutely necessary. It’s also unexpectedly handy for driving through deep sand as well. It handles like a sports car and the engine is big enough to be fun. In the nine years I’ve owned it, I’ve only had to replace the brakes and the spark plugs once and they were right within their warranty. I also had an issue with the coolant system, but no mechanic has ever been able to... (more)
Story
I once took the car out on a dirt road in Moab, UT and made it all the way out to the trailhead for the Dinosaur Bones Walk. I was the only non-Jeep in the parking lot and everyone was astounded that my vehicle made it. Proof that the Sonata is a really versatile vehicle!
Pros
This Hyundai Sonata is has a V6 engine, which makes it feel like a sports car when you drive. It’s very heavy, so the more powerful engine is necessary to feel the acceleration and help you out of any deep sand or snow banks. It handles well, but not as well as an actual sports car. Definitely more of the comfortable sedan feel. It’s a wide-bodied sedan, so there’s lots of room for four passengers and even tall people can sit in the back. Great for road trips. The trunk is absolutely huge as well and can hold several boxes or everything you would want to move with you across the country. I... (more)
Cons
While the Hyundai Sonata has a lot of great features, the 2006 model has some not-so-great qualities that they should look at for later models. It’s geared high, so keeping it in first and trying to go up a slick hill won’t work. It still has too much power, even in the lower gears. The stereo does not have any extra hookups for devices or audio input, just a CD player. That one is a little less terrible because it was 2006 and those features weren’t standard in any vehicle yet. It is also really expensive to replace anything on the vehicle since it has the nicer engine. Oil changes are $6... (more)
