2002 Lexus ES 300 Owner Ratings & Reviews

2002 Lexus ES 300 - Comfy, roomy, and luxurious
The car was roomy and could almost hold anything I wanted! Maybe not a couch, but 55" TV? Definitely. You got it! Comfy: Leather seats, great suspension, quiet motor, wood detailing. This car bleeds luxury! Practical: If you want a luxury car but aren't sure which class to choose from, have no fear, the mid-sized sedan is here! It can hold almost anything but gets fairly decent gas mileage (24 mpg in the city). Cons: Paying for premium grade fuel gets very expensive. If you don't purchase the premium grade, then the gas mileage tanks to 19-21 mpg! Definitely had a lot of problems when it got older. In the four years that I owned it (2013-2017), the last two it began to be riddled with mechanical issues. However, it was at 175,000, and was still running at 184 when I sold it (I bought i... Story
This car does not slide on the ice very well! I live in the Northwest, and we get lots of snow here! It's not exactly fun, but I always felt safe in the vehicle, because even when we tried, it refused to make "cookies" around the parking lot!
Pros
I loved how roomy it was! The windows were also very large, most especially in the front. The car had extremely good visibility and was always very light inside! The interior of the car was also extremely luxurious, with wood lining the doors, dash, and steering wheel! Generally, this car was fairly reliable too. It could have been doing so much worse at 180,000 miles! It's also very safe; its safety rating is better than the 2010 ES 300!
Cons
It started having alternator issues around 170,000 miles, and then next was the timing belt. However, I spent around $6,000 in total repairs, which could have gone a lot worse for a car of its age and mileage. The gas can get expensive, and it's not very good on gas to begin with.
2002 Lexus ES 300 - Exceptional Value
This car has been a solid vehicle for the almost 8 years I have owned it. I have put over 150,000 miles on it including a cross country trip from the East to West coast with zero issues. This car is the perfect combination of a family vehicle, every day driver, and even a car to impress someone on a date or job interview.
Story
My recent cross country drive in this car was quite memorable. The fact that all I had to do was put gas in her and go was a tribute to its reliability. We drove from east to west, hitting 11 states and numerous sights along the way and got many pictures in the process!
Pros
The top positive aspect to this car for me is the cheap availability of parts for regular maintenance such as brake pads. Given that this car is essentially a Toyota Camry, parts were on the same level as normal domestic cars and I found that to be a huge benefit. The other pro to this car is that, provided you take care of it, it will run forever without issue, no rattles in the chassis, a reliable 6 cylinder engine to give you a power combination of acceleration, speed, and fuel efficiency (I average around 30 MPG for a car over 10 years old!) The leather interior was a must when I bough... (more)
Cons
The only real negatives about this vehicle are some engineering aspects. In order to properly replace a headlight bulb, the procedures require you to remove the front bumper which is really stupid in my opinion. I have found a way to get around it, but it can be a pain still.
