When I first got this car I was looking for a very basic and cheap car to get me from point A to point B alive and with A/C. This car pretty much did the job for me. The model is a little bit older, sort of a bridge between the older designs and the sleeker look you see on modern cars. But needless to say, the car did its job admirably.
Story
Driving this to my parents' house for the first time was the greatest feeling ever, because it showed just how far I'd come as a young adult. There's no greater feeling than being autonomous.
Pros
- Spacious. I'm a tall guy, so sitting in a small sedan or something of the sort just really cramps my style (figuratively and literally). - Cargo. This thing could carry quite a bit of cargo with relative ease. Building materials, electronics, pets, you name it. - Passenger comfort. Most sedans can seat five legally, well this thing can do so comfortably; with head space and legroom to spare!
Cons
- Fuel Economy. Here there was something left to be desired, as in the city, the car would suffer in heavy traffic due to constant stopping and going. - Repairs. As an older Japanese export vehicle, this car is a bit unique in its design that makes finding replacement parts and DIY repairs a little bit harder than your run of the mill production sedan. - Model-specific problems. This car seems to have a few issues that are simply just attached to the model that it is. There are fixes, but they can sometimes be a bit of a nuisance to handle.

2002 Mazda Protege5 - Fun to drive, practical, and great on gas.

Approaching 200,000 miles and it's still going strong. The interior has held up to multiple camping trips, extended road trips, and my two dogs. This car isn't the fastest off the line, but boy is it fun to drive. When you drive this car, you feel like you are one with the road. The car handles and controls like no other that I've driven. It's comfortable, even on extended drives, and the built-in stereo sounds pretty good. To top it off, the car has had very few problems in the 8 years I've owned it. Aside from routine maintenance (tire services, oil changes, washing), the only repair it has needed in 8 years (and 100k miles) is a replacement fan belt.
Story
My dogs like to hang out the back windows in this car. When you roll up to the stop light and two goofy dogs are looking out the window, people usually smile :)
Pros
Excellent handling, fun to drive. Lots of space, especially when you fold the seats down. You can fit 8' long 2x4s in this baby! The roof racks come in handy when you need to tie down larger items for transport.
Cons
The performance tires (stock) wear down kinda quickly and the road noise can be somewhat loud at high speeds (but I typically have the music up loudly anyway!).
