The only good thing about this vehicle is the gas mileage. I average 24 city and 32 highway. The interior is ok, nothing to write home about, but will suffice for long hauls with frequent stops to stretch the legs. Rear cargo area would be adequate IF the cover was not a cheap piece of thin plywood that will warp as soon as you put anything heavy on top of it. And, I will give kudos that there is a spare tire with jack under the covering. Exterior is plastic and thin metal. I will note that the hood crumpled like an accordion when it met an SUV's rear in a less than 5mph accident - from a complete stop to crunch in about 6 feet.
Story
There are not any fun/memorable stories surrounding this vehicle.
Pros
As stated, gas mileage is the big plus for this vehicle.
Cons
I need to note that this vehicle was purchased at a very bad time. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have walked out of the dealership and kept looking. The biggest problem with this vehicle is the braking system. The previously mentioned "fender bender" happened because the engine took it upon itself to rev up and jump forward. This is a documented problem in Toyota vehicles and there was a recall for this exact problem. There are a "few" documented incidents of this happening to Scions, but there was never a recall. The problem may have been addressed in newer Scions, but has not be... (more)

I bought this car before my first daughter was born as a new vehicle. It is hands down one of the best cars I have ever owned. It is small and fast but has enough room inside fro a full-size washing machine in the box with the rear door closed. Also, large enough for a new refrigerator still in the box with the rear door partially open. Needless to say, it was plenty large for my small family to start out in. It was not until we had our third child that we needed to upgrade to something larger.
Story
First family trip to the beach. It reminded me of riding in a relatives VW bug when I was a kid going to the beach for the first time.
Pros
Great gas mileage. Room enough for quite a lot of stuff inside. Comfortable seats and overall ergonomics. The seating has a wide range of adjustment. This was a deal breaker with a lot of cars we looked at. I am almost six foot, and my wife is under five, so we needed a flexible driver's seat. Handles very well in all road conditions and comes with a pretty decent stereo.
Cons
The shorter windshield took quite a bit to get used to. It is a very light car, so while it has some zip to it, it will slide around corners sometimes and is not the best in icy conditions. Scion is no longer making cars. Toyota handles their servicing and recalls (there have been a couple).
