A Reliable, Roomy Hatchback
I purchased my Scion XB after driving a Scion xD for over 250,000 miles. In terms of cars, I am always looking for a hatchback with a backseat that folds down, and the XB fits the bill with plenty of room. The Scion XB isn't a luxury vehicle, but it is a comfortable one. Fully-grown adults won't feel packed in, and it is an excellent choice for tall people, as there is ample head room. For me, the best things about the car are that it is reliable -- nothing has gone wrong, no strange noises, no repairs necessary -- and that it has a ton of space for hauling cargo for work or on trips. It gets really respectable mileage for a car of its size -- about 26-28 miles to the gallon city driving -- so I don't spend much on fuel. However, if engine power is your thing this might not be the best car for you. It's a 4-cylinder engine, the same one in the Camry, so there is plenty of power for everyday use. But the acceleration isn't lightning fast. Similarly, it takes a bit longer to break for a stop than I was used to with the tiny xD. You can kind of feel the mass of the car behind you as you pull to a stop. The large windows give great visibility for your surroundings, but if it rains or snows, the defroster isn't quite as powerful as it should be for windows of that size. The stereo system in the car has both a CD player and a Bluetooth connection, which is excellent for using GPS directions from your phone.
