I own a 2001 Toyota Corolla -- I think it is the mid-level trim model the LE or SE. While it was purchased in 2013 and had around 110,000 miles on the car, it was a great workhorse and the engine was very responsive. The chairs were a little hard and cheap but overall a great car.
Story
Riding around with my dog in the backseat! She loves to hang her head out the window!
Pros
The way the car hugged the road and was responsive in city and highway conditions despite having a smaller engine (e.g., Not a V6). It had a tan cloth interior that is great to ride along with my yellow Labrador retriever. I'm not sure if it's the finish of the seats or what, but her hair is so easy to vacuum up!
Cons
Granted the car I owned was made in 2001 and there have been many advancements in dashboard and stereo systems since that time, however the radio and dashboard layout was very bare bones and felt cheap. I also bought the car used at around 110,000 miles -- therefore it's difficult to know what the previous owner did for a living/utilized the car, but the steering wheel material was severely cracked and peeling to the point that I had to use a steering wheel cover the not damage my hands. The headliner of the car was also in need of replacement when it was purchased. Sure the car was old wh... (more)

I love my Basic Model 2001 Toyota Corolla! I was a teacher, so I had to occasionally transport students. The car's backseat was roomy enough for three small children to fit with ease. I never worried about spills-the grey upholstery cleaned up easily-and hid the few stains that wouldn't come out. :-) The only drawback of this car is that it is a bit noisy. It's so small that you feel and hear everything-but this really didn't bother me at all.
Story
I bought this car during my first teaching job. It holds many special memories: transporting students to field trips, driving to 7-11 to purchase a Slurpee before a faculty meeting, commuting to see my husband before we were married.
Pros
I love so many things about the vehicle! The trunk is amazingly roomy for a smaller car. It has a nice shape and fits a lot of different things. I've used the car to move several times and was always pleased with how much I could fit into it. The parts and labor are comparatively inexpensive. If I was less lazy I could probably learn how to change the oil in the car myself. :-) I also LOVE that the basic model is completely non-automatic. Door locks and windows are operated manually. So...If something happens to the mechanical system in the car, you can still roll down your windows.
Cons
The only con that I can think of relates to the issue I mentioned previously. The Corolla is so little that you hear every noise from under the hood and feel every jolt that you pass over in the road. This makes it difficult to listen to music or the radio.
