I have a 1996 Volvo 960 Sedan. This is not an exciting car by any means. It is not for everyone. But for myself it is the best made car I have ever had. For me what is important in a car are three things: Dependability, safety and price.
Story
I parked next to someone with the exact same model once. It was funny.
Pros
Let's start off with the price. I paid $800 for it two years ago. Yes, I said $800. Everything works on it. It could use a new paint job but that is about it. My Volvo starts every time. And it gets pretty good gas mileage too. How about safety? Volvo's have a reputation for holding up very well in crashes. I feel good about my family and myself riding in this old Swedish brick. As far as durability goes. Volvo's have been know to last over one million miles. My Volvo has over 200,000 miles and seems to have a long way to go. I keep the maintenance up to date and check all the fluids regul... (more)
Cons
My car is no head turner. It is basic solid transportation.

I own a 1994 Volvo 960. I truly can not say enough about how much I like this vehicle. It may not be the most attractive vehicle on the road but it more than does what it needs to do. It gets amazing gas mileage over 30 miles per gallon in the city and over 35 on the highway. It is reliable and very inexpensive to work on. The air conditioning works great, I often get asked to turn it down because of how cold it gets. The steering and handling is every bit as good as cars much more expensive like Mercedes or BMW's. It is not incredibly quite but it is not loud at all either. The stereo likely needs to be upgraded as it is not as good as other cars but it is more than adequate for the normal user. One big negative is that it is quite slow off the line, it would definitely be better if i... (more)

I've owned four Volvos now. This one, by far my favorite. Easy driving. Well made. Safe. All around great car, even though it's old enough to vote. I adore these cars. They're so nice to own and they make me feel "cool" while I drive them. Very little major work needs to be done on it. Only occasional wear and tear type repairs.
Story
Driving to Newton with Megan to get donuts. It's not a very long drive but the car made it comfortable. Also the stereo is nice and for the drive we were able to listen to music.
Pros
Safe. I never worry about being in a wreck. Built well, solid vehicle. Comfort. It drives like a Cadillac. Since it's a station wagon I have plenty of room. It's very comfortable and I'm able to stretch out and cart stuff around. The sun roof provides a really nice access to the outside on those days that are nice enough to have the windows down but not so nice you want all of them down.
Cons
Doesn't do great on gas mileage. I've added fuel additives and it seems to suck fuel faster than most cars. As it is an older car the wear and tear stuff is kind of frequent. Also it's foreign so some shops are bewildered by working on it. Every single Volvo I've ever owned has had weird electrical systems. This one is fine so far, but I'm not sure how it's going to wind up in the future.
