I have a 1996 Volvo 960 Sedan. This is not an exciting car by any means. It is not for everyone. But for myself it is the best made car I have ever had. For me what is important in a car are three things: Dependability, safety and price.
Story
I parked next to someone with the exact same model once. It was funny.
Pros
Let's start off with the price. I paid $800 for it two years ago. Yes, I said $800. Everything works on it. It could use a new paint job but that is about it. My Volvo starts every time. And it gets pretty good gas mileage too. How about safety? Volvo's have a reputation for holding up very well in crashes. I feel good about my family and myself riding in this old Swedish brick. As far as durability goes. Volvo's have been know to last over one million miles. My Volvo has over 200,000 miles and seems to have a long way to go. I keep the maintenance up to date and check all the fluids regul... (more)
Cons
My car is no head turner. It is basic solid transportation.

I own a 1994 Volvo 960. I truly can not say enough about how much I like this vehicle. It may not be the most attractive vehicle on the road but it more than does what it needs to do. It gets amazing gas mileage over 30 miles per gallon in the city and over 35 on the highway. It is reliable and very inexpensive to work on. The air conditioning works great, I often get asked to turn it down because of how cold it gets. The steering and handling is every bit as good as cars much more expensive like Mercedes or BMW's. It is not incredibly quite but it is not loud at all either. The stereo likely needs to be upgraded as it is not as good as other cars but it is more than adequate for the normal user. One big negative is that it is quite slow off the line, it would definitely be better if i... (more)

Cons
Stereo is not so good Car is not very attractive Not very fast, especially off the line

My vehicle is a 96 Volvo 960. It's all black, leather seats, sunroof. It has great longevity. It's nearly two decades old, and still running great. I've had it myself for five years and have had no problems. I haven't taken care of the car as much as I could as far as oil changes and check ups, but it's still dependable.
Story
My best friend has a Cadillac that came out the same year. The other close friend has a Nissan that's four years old max. Each of them have called me within the last two months needing assistance with their cars, which are newer and more expensive, meanwhile I've had no issues. They're both still making payments and having it fixed and I get to keep money in my pocket.
Pros
Dependability. I love the gas mileage. Maintenance is easy, it seems that everyone mechanic is at least somewhat familiar with the car. It's a tough car even though it doesn't look. I haven't been kind to it as I'm not much of a car person but it's still going strong.
Cons
The only negatives are about how it looks. It's not exactly a chick magnet. It's a wagon, which is usually associated with suburban families so I stick out while I'm driving. Even with that said, I knew it wasn't the prettiest car going in.
