Well this is my first car, I bought it used about 3 years ago. It reeked of cigarette smoke, but it worked well at first. It started acting up after a "check up" at a local car place, the car alarm went off all the time and sometimes the car itself wouldn't start at all. The air conditioning worked at least which is good for a hot place like Texas. The breaks work well, but the tires have poor traction in wet conditions. The neutral safety switch was broken and the cause of the car not starting and the alarm going off constantly, oddly no professional could figure it out or replicate my issues, but I ordered a replacement and since then my car has worked relatively normal. The only issue now is it stutters when started but other wise it works reliably and has decent enough gas mileage.... (more)
Story
Well it was raining one day and there was a huge puddle in the street I drove through, but I ended up splashing these two old ladies. I felt bad but it was probably the funniest thing that's ever happened in my car.
Pros
I like that it's small and easy to maneuver. I like the color of blue it's painted. I also have these really nice new windshield wipers on it, they work pretty well too.
Cons
The previous owner smoked in it so the smell stuck around for a while. Still smells a little honestly but I can't really tell anymore. It stutters when started. The windshield has all these micro-scratches on it so driving at night is terrifying when on coming traffic's lights reflect all those tiny scratches and reduces my visibility significantly, so I only try and drive during the day. The lining on my driver side door interior is falling off and it's annoying.

2007 Volvo S40 - Tough, but cheap-feeling

I purchased this vehicle from a used lot and was aware of the issues that already existed on it. A cracked side mirror and a seat adjustment that didn't work seemed like small issues compared to the good deal that I got for it. However, these small issues have rapidly been overtaken by large issues specifically related to the interior of the car. The CD player stopped working within two months and cannot be replaced with an aftermarket player due to the nature of the audio system. The material covering the roof has also begun to come undone from the roof of the car. Further, the interior decor has a cheap feel to it, with the wood trim looking more like plastic and the buttons and steering wheel covered by paint that easily flakes off. The mechanics of the car are solid, having hit the... (more)
Story
This is the car that I packed my room into and headed down to college in. I have good memories of shoving an entire chest of drawers, eighteen pillows and three closets worth of clothes into the trunk, which proved to be surprisingly spacious.
Pros
I enjoy the luxury feel of the car. The seats are well-made and the interior is roomy. The dash is also nice, providing lots of information for the driver such as miles until empty and instantaneous and average miles per gallon. The audio has a nice sound to it so long as you don't mess with too many of the audio options. There is also quite a bit of storage available with a roomy glove box, console, and a very spacious trunk. It's also nice that the back seats are able to be laid out flat to accommodate large loads. The engine is solid on the car. It runs well and typically provides few ... (more)
Cons
The interior of the car feels cheaply made. From the seats that are not-quite-leather, to the plastic “wood trim,” and the roofing that is caving in, the interior is less than pleasing. There are myriad small noises that erupt as various loose pieces of trim and storage begin to rattle around at high speeds. The overall driving noise is somewhat deafening. The cabin is simply not able to stand up to normal road noises. There are also various pieces of paint, from the logo on the steering wheel to the buttons on the console, that are flaking off unattractively. The plastic that covers vario... (more)

I absolutely love my Volvo and would not consider driving any other type of car. My parents also drive Volvos and that is what type of car I learned to drive on. My car is a 4 door S40, it's a dark gray and has black leather seats. Unfortunately since it is a 2007, it doesn't have any type of touch screen features or anything super high-tech. The car was purchased at CarMax as a certified used vehicle. It was like love at first sight- I had been looking at cars for a couple months, but knew I had found the right one when I saw the Volvo and had given it for a test-drive. Thus far, I've been very happy with my car and love the quality of the product!
Story
I have tons of memories in my car- one that comes to mind is a road trip I took with some of my friends! Great times in my cute little Volvo!
Pros
I love the safety features of the car and just how safe I feel while I'm driving the car. Although I've never been in a car accident, I feel like mine would be okay in an accident and would hold up very well. I also feel very safe when driving around kids that I babysit- I've never been afraid of getting in an accident. I really like how easy the car is to drive and performs very well in all different types of weather conditions. The gas mileage I receive on the car is absolutely superb so of course that's a definite bonus!! I feel like overall I have major pros on my car and would definit... (more)
Cons
My one negative is that my sound system is not super up-to-date. I wish that my car had an AUX outlet for music- because unfortunately it doesn't. Also my CD player doesn't work all the time- which is probably just because of overuse, not a problem with the car itself. Another con is that my car seems to be a magnet for getting dented and hit (while I'm not in the car). Again, this is not something that I can necessarily control. Lastly, I think the tires that were originally on my car and that still are constantly having issues and not passing inspection. This is very frustrating, and it... (more)
