2001 Volvo V70 - Great, until there is a problem!

This vehicle is reliable and has worked relatively well for me in the time that I had it. Although I bought it used, it maintained its quality performance and function for many years. I love the hatchback, and the room that this car has inside. Whether you're trying to move things, fit people inside, or go exploring the outdoors. The space inside is very nice to have. My biggest frustrations with it were centered around it being a European car, that is both difficult and expensive to repair. Part of the problem is the area where I live. It's fairly rural, and the nearest Volvo dealer is about a 2.5 hour car drive away. Although I think it is a good car, I probably wouldn't buy it again for the place that I live. Were I to move to a more urban place near certified mechanics and dealers,... (more)
Story
When going camping in Southern Idaho, we were able to fit a car-full of guys and all of their stuff inside easily. The hatchback feature is great!
Pros
This vehicle is very comfortable. Not quite as comfortable as something like a Cadillac, but more so than any standard car. Compared to other cars, it is pretty reliable. I haven't had too many problems with it and it just keeps chugging along. Spacious. It really does have a lot of room, probably more room than just about any other car. To get more room than what this car has you would need to buy a big SUV or a truck.
Cons
Like every vehicle, it does have some things that aren't quite so positive. These are some of the things that I disliked. Not all mechanics are comfortable fixing it. Of the mechanics that I took it too, several refused to even look at it and recommended that I take it to a specialist because of the type of car. Parts are expensive. It addition to the high price of a specialist mechanic, the parts often need to be (in my experience) imported and are very expensive compared to what I've needed to pay for repairs on other cars. There isn't a key lock on the passenger's side and the locks oft... (more)

My V70 Volvo has been great to me. It provides a safe car for my family but is also turbocharged, so it has plenty of get up to it. I also love that it is a station wagon. I have been able to use it to move multiple times and haven't had to rent a big truck or U-Haul to do so. There have been a few mechanical issues, but overall, I have been able to fix them myself with minor knowledge of car repair. With over 200,000 miles, I have little to complain about with my car.
Story
I went camping with a group of friends, and we had to take a trail road instead of a highway, and several of my friends had to leave their cars farther back because they couldn't handle the trail. Because my car has all-wheel drive, I was able to get through to the campsite with ease.
Pros
The best part of the car is the safety it provides. My family was t-boned in a similar model right on the driver's side, and not only were they not injured, they were able to open the door and step out, even though the entire side was crushed.
Cons
Being a bit older and probably in need of a tune up, the fuel mileage has gone down, and now I only get about 17 miles to the gallon now. A common problem I have noticed in all Volvos I have driven is that the heater core also breaks easily if you really pound the car often. That is the hardest part I have replaced, and honestly, it is not fun or easy to do.
