2004 Volvo XC70 Owner Ratings & Reviews

2004 Volvo XC70 - Unassuming Luxury
My Volvo Cross Country XC70 is the best car I have owned. It has many luxurious features, a sleek body build, and drives well over different terrains. The leather interior is comfortable and easily to clean. The security system is reliable and has a small red light that is easily seen up close and several feet away. The tinted windows reduce the amount of sunlight that impacts the visibility of passengers and minimizes the fading of the leather interior. The Cross Country has a turbo aspect to it that allows for quick accerlation that is effortless.
Story
I really like my car. My fondness is similar to a person's love for their pet. My car has a name and I share this with people when the situation allows. I was at a professional development with a familiar colleague. We were taking a break for lunch and she said, "You are going to sit in Grace during your lunch?" I really chuckled because she really knew me well enough and my relationship with ... (more)
Pros
The top positive thing about this vehicle is the all wheel drive. It drives very well, quietly, and switches gears with ease. Volvo Cross Country XC70 has a sunroof that can be elevated at a slight angle with a gap of few inches or it can slide back to allow for a wide opening. Some of my favorite features include the information panel that allows the driver to see how many miles available with a given amount of gas and if service is needed.
Cons
Some negatives include having only one keyed door. This is very challenging if the remote opener is not working well AND the weather is below 32 degrees. One limitation is the tilt of the wheel can only go so far and a tall, long legged person drives with the wheel contacting their knees.
2004 Volvo XC70 - My love/hate relationship with my Volvo.
I was so excited to purchase my Volvo XC70, because I had owned Volvo's in the past and had great experiences. My first week in my "new-to-me" Volvo was pure bliss. My first reason for purchasing that particular make and model was it's safety record. It felt like a tank as far as being solid. It was also extremely comfortable to drive because of the adjustment options. It was turbo which was great for getting off and on the highway ramps. Not long after the first week, my happiness began to fade.
Story
My boyfriend and I went to a concert that was on the outskirts of Austin. After the concert, I went to start the car. The engine turned over but it wouldn't start. We decided to camp out in the vehicle. Fortunately, the layout of the car was good for accommodating two adults (and a dog) so we ended up saving quite a bit of money that we would have spent on a hotel.
Pros
I was very impressed with the safety features of the car. The steel frame and Volvo's safety record are very impressive. I was also pleased with the sound system. It came with six speakers and an excellent system for playing CDs in addition to MP3 files. The comfort of the seats was also quite impressive as there were quite a few adjustment option to create to perfect fit.
Cons
One of the drawbacks was mileage. The car was a gas guzzler. I was only averaging about 14 miles per gallon in the city and gas was quite expensive at the time. After the first week of ownership, the car would not start intermittently. I had to have it towed to the Volvo dealership and was told it was a computer problem. The ignition coil was also going out. The repair bill was outrageous.
