Overall, this car is great. This is actually the second Dodge Caliber that I have owned, and only because the previous one was totaled by an oncoming car. It sits higher up than most cars do, which makes it way more versatile than a normal car. I was able to take it off-roading in Colorado (both calibers), and it worked pretty well. It's still front-wheel drive, so it's not quite as hardy when you are actually off-roading or using it on an icy road, but the clearance you can get is good. You just need to go slowly, so you don't do any damage of course. I love that it is a hatchback as well because of all the room! I have two kayaks, about 7.5-8 feet each, and when I place the back seats and the front passenger seat down, I can fit both of them on top of each other. It's definitely diff... (more)
Story
The kayaks again. Driving in the UP, my partner was speeding and got pulled over (literally only one cop drives by at 8am and one at 6pm, that's how remote we are) and, of course, the cop is there and pulls him over. He asked for registration, but because the kayaks are so jammed into the car, he has to move them. The cop was actually so impressed that we fit them in there that he told us it w... (more)
Pros
They can come with Bluetooth, stereo thing in the back, heated seats, a "sport" option for shifting, and a cooler in the glove box! Also, it's got an actual normal plug on the arm rest, which is great. I hate using car chargers because they are so slow, so I constantly just bring my normal phone charger with me. I think that is my favorite part about this car, other than the room you can get when you put the seats down for transporting my two kayaks.
Cons
I don't care for the gas mileage. It seemed like a good deal when I first got one in 2008, and in 2013 when I was forced to get a new car it was also doable. Now, though it seems really wasteful in comparison to most newer cars. My partner has a Mazda that gets between 33-39 mpg, which is fantastic for the amount he drives. I actually drive more as we have lived two hours apart for the last few years, and we go on road trips often in my car, so the mileage definitely needs to be improved.

The Dodge Caliber drives well and is sharp looking while still being comfortable to sit in or drive. The vehicle is well built, and hasn't had any problems or repairs I didn't expect. I've only maintained the car for the last 4 plus years and am surprised at the quality in most aspects of the car. I've had the car over 4 years, put 39,000 miles on it, and have been very pleasantly surprised at the quality workmanship and lack of repairs. I sold my Dodge Caravan after 4 years due to the amount of money I had to continually put in it and was seriously concerned about buying another Dodge. The Caliber has changed my mind concerning Dodge and its products. I wish it had more window area to see the traffic around me and better gas mileage. All in all though, I'm very happy with this purchas... (more)
Story
I have been driving it to many doctor appointments and love the fact that, even though it's a little SUV, it fits in those "compact car" parking spaces. It also takes corners and small spaces easily and quickly.
Pros
I love the extras on my SXT Plus, the sun roof is great and I've had no problems with it. The larger wheels look awesome on the car, but I hated having to pay extra for the newer tires when I replaced them. The cloth interior is much better quality than I expected, better than my Subaru Forester even! The radio is standard and yet the sound is great. It's very easy to drive and stops on a dime. I've been told I have a "sexy little car", and I have to agree! The can cooler in the glove compartment is a benefit I wasn't expecting, and love it! We take long drives now in Florida and this real... (more)
Cons
Some of the cons I have concerning this vehicle are the small amount of window area, lower gas mileage and the small gas tank. When I was teaching my son to drive, we had a lot of problems with him looking over his shoulder to see other cars. The window space is very small. I know it makes it look sleeker and more aerodynamic but it isn't as safe as I would like. The hatchback is also made to look sleek and the sloping ceiling makes it tough to fit many things into it. I bought the car due to the hatchback and was disappointed in the amount of space in the hatch. I also seem to be at the g... (more)
