We bought this vehicle because we needed something that was heavier and sturdier in the snow and ice. We have snow 4 months out of the year and I was tired of getting stuck with our van. We had sold our larger SUV because it was to big and having problems. I did not want something too big, but a little on the smaller side. The Nitro was the right size for our shrinking family. We did lots of research on this vehicle and liked that fact that the safety rating was high. I also liked the way it drove when we test drove it. It came with Sirius and at the time it was plus. We have driven it over 5 years and have never had any issues with it. The gas mileage is average for its size, but I like the way it handles. It is not as comfortable on long trips as other cars we have had, but it perfor... (more)
Story
It fits sporting equipment great and can make it through the mud and snow and muck as we are driving through the sporting fields.
Pros
For a smaller person this car was perfect. I wanted a small SUV that would perform in the snow and it does. I feel like it does what I bought it for and I like the fact that it is wider.
Cons
I felt like the details from this vehicle were missing. Some were just small, but the seats were cheaply made. The headrests on the driver's seat and the passengers seat broke soon after we had it. There is not much leg room in the back for taller people also.

Overall, both my husband and I were very happy with the Dodge Nitro. We were in search of a smaller SUV that had 4 wheel drive and the ability to go well through the snow. This vehicle did just that. When put in 4 wheel drive, it was able to drive in snow without any problems. It was a bit high to climb in and out of considering that I am rather petite. However, once in the vehicle, it was easy for me to drive.
Story
We actually would go out in the snow in this SUV and enjoy driving in 4 wheel drive where other cars couldn't go.
Pros
I was able to confidently drive in less than perfect weather conditions, which are fairly common to our area. I was able to adjust the seat enough so that I could see clearly to drive, which has been a problem for in the past due to my petite height. I enjoyed driving this SUV and felt safe while driving it.
Cons
The one thing I didn't enjoy about this vehicle was having to fill the gas tank. It did cost a bit more than I had expected to fill it. Also, it would run though gas like water if you had to use the option of 4 wheel drive. Also, I wish it would have been just a bit lower so that it would have been a bit easier to get in and out of the vehicle.
