2002 Dodge Stratus - GOOD CAR, RUNS WELL

I like the styling of the Dodge Stratus, it looks sporty but yet is still practical. It is a good looking car and has a body style that I like. The seats are comfortable and easy to get in and out of. There is ample space in the seats, cabin, and trunk areas. The car runs fairly quietly and one of the best features about it is the fact that I can see very well through all of the windows, unlike many newer car models. This reduces blind spots and increases overall visibility. So far, I have only had it in the shop for things that coincide with usual wear on a vehicle of this age, such as needing a new strut mount or brakes. Maintenance costs are about average and it gets average gas mileage in town, slightly above average on the interstate. It's a fun car to drive, steers easily, handle... (more)
Story
Taking road trips with the kids in fun to do with this car.
Pros
The best things about this vehicle are the body style and visibility factor. I like how open my field of vision is while driving, backing up, etc.
Cons
The only negatives about this vehicle are the fact that the rockers panels tend to rust out very easily, although I do live in an area with snow and heavy road salt which accelerates this process. Also, the battery is in a very weird spot, like with my other Dodge/Plymouth cars in the past, and requires extra labor when getting a battery replaced because the front tire needs to be taken of to do it. I guess this prevents anyone from swiping the battery though.

I own a 2002 Dodge Stratus which I purchased used. I like the body shape and style of the car, has a somewhat sporty look, yet is a good family car. It has roomy, comfortable seating and a good sized trunk. The car seems to be of decent quality, although this model seems to have issues with the ball joints and strut mounts going bad after so many years. I have had to have the brakes and one strut mount replaced since I've owned it, but aside from that, no other real issues besides regular maintenance. Overall good car.
Story
Sadly, right after buying the car, I took it to an automatic car wash during the winter to wash off all the road salt from the body and under carriage. The washer had frozen and became very heavy and it ripped off my side view mirror and put several superficial scratches on the exterior of the car on the driver's side. I was able to fix the mirror using super glue and duct tape, and thankfully... (more)
Pros
The car drives nicely, is fun to drive. Accelerates well, but not as well as a 2001 model of the same car I previously owned. Brakes well and handles well. Comfortable enough to take kids on long drives. Gas mileage is okay for a car of this size, gets fairly decent highway mileage.
Cons
This model seems to have issues with the rocker panels rusting out badly, and the rust then spreads out to the base of the doors. Really makes the car look crummy when everything else in in decent shape. This model also has issues with the hydraulics in the trunk wanting to slam shut while it's open, which can really hurt when the trunk door falls on you. Does not get the best mileage for in town driving.
