When I bought the FJ; I was looking for a secondary vehicle to my Toyota Camry and a vehicle that could handle Minnesota winters on my lengthy (80 miles of rural driving) daily commute. In Minnesota, winter can start in October and last all the way into April. Temperatures can drop to 20 below and it is not uncommon to get 6 to 12 inches of snow from a storm. The FJ has gone through it all. It has started right up after sitting outside all night in minus 20 degree weather. Driven through blizzards where visibility was less than 1/8 of a mile. Busted right through three foot high snowdrifts and easily drives through 12 to18 inch deep snow. The heater and defrosts are excellent, a must for winter driving, with the interior being comfortable within five to ten minutes. I have upgraded t... (more)

Last winter we had an unusually heavy snowfall and rather than sticking to the main highways for my commute; I would be hopping off on every back-country gravel road I could find so I could bust through a seemingly endless series of snow drifts.
A Favor
1) Being over 6'4", I have never felt cramped in this vehicle. I have had some people complain about the high step of getting into the vehicle, but then again I didn't buy the vehicle for them. I have no problem getting in or out of the vehicle. I have plenty of headroom inside the cab and have never hit my head on the ceiling, even when going over bumps. 2) The FJ has gone through just about everything that I have thrown at it; snow, ice, high water, mud, steep grades, off-roading. 3) The interior is fairly simple, yet easy to keep clean. The floors are rubber coated and the seats are wa... (more)
En Contra
1) The vehicle gets a little over 20 miles per gallon, so it is not ideal for a casual commuter. 2) It would be nice if there was more length in the interior space, it is just a little too short for trying to get a 10 foot piece of lumber inside. 3) When the back seats are laid down, they don't lay flat and even with the back storage area. I have on occasion slept in the back of the vehicle when out camping or on long road trips and it is hard to find a comfortable position for sleeping due to a ridge and angle of incline. 4) The vehicle also has blind spots. 5) The roof has a slight cur... This SUV/Truck was great for me as a snowboarder. There were many days when I would go up the mountain with no chains or anything in 4wd of course and would never get stuck even if I had to go off the road into some deep snow (3-4 feet). I pulled people out of ditches all the time with it no problem too. It was really fun to drive, but had bad aerodynamics on the freeway in high crosswind and the windshield was very vertical straight up and down so it chipped and cracked a lot from rocks flinged up from semis. Mileage was OK for a truck I suppose. Back seat had very little room for passengers legs but most of the time I had the seats folded down anyway to carry my snowboards back there cause I was to lazy to put them on the roof. Pretty comfy and good ride and sound system. Blind spots... (more)

Yea alot of times people would request that I drive them home from snowboarding in this thing cause they knew I could get down the mountain fast and go around anyone that was stuck and had a good stereo.
A Favor
Excellent 4wd gear ratio's for stock truck and even weight distribution over the wheels. Good stock sound system. Decent amount of space when back seats were folded down to carry things or fall asleep back there for a quick nap. Good gas mileage and cheap parts. Reliable and FUN to drive.
En Contra
Windshield is too flat (straight up and down vertical) so any rocks that get flinged up don't chip but usually CRACK the windshield so you need to replace it a couple times a year if you're a daily freeway driver (semis). Aerodynamics weren't very good so in heavy winds you have to drive very carefully and get worse gas mileage. Back seats do not have enough leg room.

2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser - Will take you anywhere you want to go.

I love being able to go anywhere in this vehicle without any special extras. I am able to take it to the lake and cruise it like a dune buggy, or hill climbing, or to take my family snow boarding. I love that it has the height of a truck but the build of a larger SUV, and when your inside it feels like your in a tank. It's so roomy. However it is quite boxy so living in a town that is exceptionally windy isn't my favorite. The interior is plain and if you don't like firm seats this probably wont be your favorite vehicle to sit in but I personally like them that way. There are only 2 windows that open and that is due to the vehicle having suicide doors to get to the back seat. The back seats also fold completely down so we can fit our snowboards inside so no need for a roof rack. When t... (more)

My friends and I came up with a new game we call it FJ. Once I bought this car me and all my friends just kept noticing them everywhere and it seemed before I got it I never really saw them anywhere. So it's basically slug bug but we have other rules. We do it on every car ride we go even if its just to the store down the street. We've taught so many other people the game as well.
A Favor
Roomy, great in all weather conditions, tons of fun extras.
En Contra
Bad for windy areas, only 2 windows.
