2014 Toyota Prius c - A car for nerds (and that's a good thing)

The quality and overall experience were about what I'd expect from Toyota -- the dealer and service shop run like a well-oiled machine. The car itself is blue and basic, but is comfortable inside and well laid out -- everything in easy reach, nothing too confusing, enough space to fit people in the back seat. I liked the car because it was a lot of car for the money; I expected that the hybrid would be more, which it was but no hugely so, and it comes with a lot of features that help ease the price in a lowish end car.
Historia
It's been a horrible year, so I haven't had a chance to do much driving for fun -- sorry I can't fill in a good story. OK -- here's one: I've been ill -- first surgery then weekly treatments. The car is bright blue. When my husband would come to pick me up, I could always tell it was him, which put a smile on my face.
A Favor
Obviously, the mileage -- my husband uses it on his 30+ mile (one way!) Commute. Our last car required premium gas and only got about 25 miles to the gallon, so this has been a huge plus. The unintended thing is that the electronics are a stats geek's dream -- like what part of the system is powering driving or charging, how long the charge will go, live mileage info -- I know probably pretty standard in other electric or hybrid cars, but definitely fun.
En Contra
Nothing, really. It's not flashy and has a boring reputation (but not as dull as the regular Prius). Our last car was an import sports car, and between the constant breakdowns, impossibility and expense of repair, we need a break from that type of car -- so we wanted dull. An unexpected plus to the "dull" compared to previous car -- it's not a cop magnet :)

My Prius C is the best purchase I've ever made. I bought a used Toyota Prius C actually from the car salesman at the lot I went to. He had to clean out his personals for me to take it home. In the past two years of owning it I have saved thousands of dollars with very little issue or maintenance needs. I rate the fuel economy it's highest asset.
Historia
I hit our garbage can multiple times even with the backup camera.
A Favor
Gas savings is clearly the best part of owning the car. I enjoy the hatchback trunk. It is extremely roomy. Whenever my wife buys furniture it fits well when I fold the seats down (which are very easy to lower). The cruise control is easy to set and very useful when driving long distances. The center display offers some really neat information about the fuel economy of the car and helps you optimize your driving speed v. Fuel usage. The backup camera is also nice. The duel glove compartments on the passenger side offer a good amount of storage.
En Contra
When you do need to change the tire, the lugnuts are very difficult to remove. I had to call AAA to help. This shouldn't be an issue you ever really encounter though if you take good care of the tires and tire pressure. Sometimes when driving at night the odometer reflection glows in your line of sight in the windshield. This is most likely a height specific issue. The get-up-and-go with the Prius is minimal. Don't expect to zoom through any lights with this car.

I've had the Prius C since the year that it was released. It was purchased new. This vehicle has gotten me through not only 85,000 miles, but also in any weather! This car is surprisingly very good in inclement weather conditions. I appreciate that this car shows on the dashboard when the road is slippery, and it displays when there is low tire pressure. The typical Prius tires have been a problem for me, as they would go flat often but that can be fixed by purchasing more heavy duty tires. I always drive in eco-mode and never feel that I need any more "giddy up". My previous job required a considerable amount of city driving and I could get 400 miles out of a tank of gas, which typically cost me only $20. This car is extremely economical and will pay for itself just in gas savings! Th... (more)

I work in Philadelphia and our roads here aren't great. The potholes get bigger every year! One time on my way to work, I hit a pot hole and the plastic covering the undercarriage started to drag under my car. Unable to drive due to the clunking, I stopped at a CVS and bought duct tape and scissors. I duct taped the plastic to the car. Since I was busy, I rocked the duct tape on my front bumpe... (more)
A Favor
My favorite aspect of this car is the fact that I can drive 400 miles without needing to get gas. I really like how safe this car feels and I enjoy driving in eco-mode. The seats are extremely comfortable and easy to adjust based on the driver. I enjoy the sporty look of this car as the interior and exterior are beautifully constructed. I like how quiet the engine is and how I can drive in eco-mode without having to worry about switching to power mode because eco-mode is fast enough! I really like the push to start and being able to open the door by touching the handle if you have the key ... (more)
En Contra
I dislike the Prius tires that are typically sold with the car. They are expensive and I have punctured many just living in the city. This can be rectified by purchasing more heavy duty tires. However, this would not be necessary if you were only driving in suburban or rural settings. The back window also takes some getting used to due to bars on either side of the window that comprise the trunk. I do not like that the trunk is open and I would much prefer to have a closed trunk so that I could keep valuables in my trunk without worrying about the valuables being seen from the outside.
