1999 Toyota 4Runner - FIT FOR THE DRIVER
I purchased the truck used with at least 100+ miles already. So I was nervous about the longevity of it. I like that the set up is accommodating for the driver, it FITS FOR THE DRIVER. It rides very well, smooth not rough. I found it handles a lot better than most SUVs on the road. It is a very comfortable ride for the driver though, especially the ac vent located right under the steering wheel. Definitely a bonus for driver. I do not like that there are no speakers in the back for passenger or vent for AC therefore I have to have the radio louder or have the AC blowing harder to circulate. I have had the truck for years and have not had any major issues outside of normal wear and tear. Therefore maintenance is low and performance is still maintained within my budget. A memorable moment is when we went to an outdoor concert and got rain out. We all ran back to our vehicles but didn't want to leave the concert because they were still playing music. So I let all the seats down in Snow White (that's what I call my truck) and we all piled into the back and were able to stay dry and have somewhat of a little picnic right there in the back of the truck. So I let all the seats down in Snow White (that's what I call my truck) and we all piled into the back and were able to stay dry and have somewhat of a little picnic right there in the back of the truck. I left the door lifted up so it provided like a little car port for others to stand up. They didn't stay completely dry but they were able to at least stay dry waist high. The rain lasted about 30mins and we were able to go back to the concert and got better seatings because so many people had left.
It's geared for driver comfort. Its handlebars allows easy access for all passengers to get in and out the truck. I love the space when the seats are let down to allow more cargo room. And the side compartment in the back trunk area to store tools, jumper cables, and etc. is extremely useful. I love that the truck is a SUV but doesn't feel like an SUV. (Too big) which is good because I'm a woman and want to feel in control and not like I am driving a BUS. I LOVE that the rear window lets down. It allows easy access with the key to let up or down when you just need to throw something in the back without having to let up the whole trunk door. And I lost the alarm remote but am able to still do a lot of things without it like unlocking all the doors at once but turning the key twice to the right through the driver door. (I don't have to get in and hit the unlock button to unlock the doors)
Although it appears roomy, the truck does not have a lot of leg space for taller passengers. There are no vents for backseat passengers, nor are there speakers. I don't have many cons about this truck because I do enjoy it. My sunroof leaked which caused damage to the interior roof, so the headline inside the truck is discolored. It was due to not knowing when the sunroof was fully completed or not. There should be a better way to do that than just pushing one button. I do not, I repeat, I do not have many cons about this truck.

1998 Toyota 4Runner - Much More Than Just An Awesome Offroad Vehicle
This is hands down one of the best vehicles I have ever driven. It could go anywhere, on or off the road. It was comfortable enough to be a daily driver and versatile enough to use it for work, towing a trailer, etc. I bought it used with 185,000 miles and put another 100,000 on it over 5 years and it hardly has had any issues and required relatively low maintenance. Toyota makes some of the best vehicles in the world and the 4runner is near the top of that list. I receive many compliments when driving this vehicle. Everyone I know who has driven it or even just rode along has been pleased with it's features and the overall driving experience. One concern is that it doesn't get the best gas mileage and I do a lot of driving. This is to be expected though because it is a SUV with a v6. ... (more)

One concern is that it doesn't get the best gas mileage and I do a lot of driving. This is to be expected though because it is a SUV with a v6. I have driven it on trails where most of the other trucks where lifted pickups with mudding tires and rarely had an issue getting it up and over even the most steep and treacherous hill climbs. It has plenty of space even when riding with multiple passengers. The roll down window on the back hatch door is a 4runner signature and really awesome for all kinds of situations from accessing work equipment to camping to getting groceries. I really have basically no complaints about this vehicle: I've driven the heck out of it and had very few problems compared to other vehicles I've owned or been familiar with the driving and ownership experiences.
So many off-road excursions in the nearby mountains. It performed well; never broke down and was always easy to get out when it got stuck.

1998 Toyota 4Runner - Awesome reliability. Midsize SUV.
I like that my vehicle is spacious enough for my family. The rear cargo area is really big for my shopping days. The seats are comfy. The rear (power) glass window goes up and down, which is very convenient for me to use for work or shopping. Most SUVs on the market don't have an option for the rear glass window to go up and down. The rear seats are collapsible. The SUV is a 4WD and has some power to do what I like to do on my free time, which is go off-roading. The SUV is easy to get in and out of no matter how (big) you are. There's no really bad blind spots as you operate the vehicle. The transmission is a lot stronger than some other gens. of the 4Runner. The bumpers are full chrome metal bumpers that most vehicle nowadays don't have, and that is made with plastic and hard foam. Th... (more)

The bumpers are full chrome metal bumpers that most vehicle nowadays don't have, and that is made with plastic and hard foam. The thing that I hate about the vehicle is that the rear axle seal is a common problem that always has to be changed out every now and then because of a poor design from Toyota. The axle tube vent is also a flop. The brakes in the front warp to easily under hard pressure. The paint on the vehicle is, by far, the worst of the worst on the vehicle. The darker paint colors of my same gen. 4Runner all have paint peeling defects, while the white, gold, and silver paint colors last the longest and have no paint peeling problems.
That my boyfriend and I got to fully load the SUV to the fullest with our fishing gear and took the 4Runner off-roading to get to a fishing spot, and we had a blast. It was an awesome scenic fishing trip to remember.

The vehicle was some what in my budget, at first. The reliability of the vehicle after proper maintenance is awesome. The transmission just keeps on going even though the mileage is well over 150,000 miles. The engine is strong and had enough power to haul some heavy objects. The parts are in high demand in Hawaii where I reside in, so it's easy to get any part for my vehicle when it breaks. Because my 4Runner in Hawaii is in high demand, the resale value for my vehicle will always be up there. Hawaii prices on 1990s gen. Toyota pickups and SUVs are all overpriced compared to the mainland because of the crazy demand down here. The A/C is also one of the most important things to have because it's so hot here in Hawaii. The A/C is my favorite feature of all. The aftermarket in-dash DVD player is also a great feature for my passenger to watch a movie while on a long road trip in traffic. I enjoy the height of my 4Runner having a minor 4-inch lift so I can see what's ahead over a lot of other vehicles in traffic and having a lifted vehicle helps by avoiding super big potholes and heavy flooded areas when we have bad weather here in Hawaii. It always rains a lot.
The most number one common flaw with my year gen 4Runner is the paint on the hood and roof is the biggest problem. The paint is faded, and the clear coat is still coming off. The vehicle is automatic 4wd but not as good as the real 4wd standard manual SUVs. You can also feel the heat coming from the carpet from the trans tunnel, so it feels like a sauna for your feet and legs. The vehicles horn sounds like a kid's toy car horn, very soft and high pitched. Coils springs always go bad in most on the Toyota pickups and SUVs, where the ass end of the vehicle sags lower than the front end of th... (more)

Coils springs always go bad in most on the Toyota pickups and SUVs, where the ass end of the vehicle sags lower than the front end of the vehicle. The stock stereo speakers sound like a kid's toy radio or a tin can sounding stereo with no bass. The model and trim level I have for my 4Runner doesn't have the power sunroof and the supercharger. The headroom for the vehicle is a little small for anyone who is 6'0" or taller. The antenna is crappy. Having to get recon for my vehicle. It's the state law to get recon for the most dumbest vehicle modifications.
