The Mazda CX-7 first caught my eye at the dealership as a sleek looking car that had style. Once I got in and drove it, I fell in love. I love the size - not too big or too small. It allows me to maneuver the car as if it were a smaller vehicle, but I sit up higher and can see more as in a bigger vehicle. The drive is smooth, the seats are comfortable, and there is plenty of room for 5 people with storage in the back. So far the car has not had any major defects as my previous cars have had.
Story
The memorable story I have about my Mazda CX-7 was the first time we brought my son home from the hospital after being born. We was securely strapped into his car seat and my husband was driving about 10 miles an hour under the speed limit the whole way home. At that point, the safety of the car was the most important thing to me.
Pros
I love the look of the Mazda CX-7. It looks like a luxury SUV, but without the luxury price tag. The car drives and maneuvers easily for me. As my first SUV, I was concerned about the size of the vehicle, but it drives just like a regular car. The CX-7 is roomy and comfortable and easily seats 5 people. The hatchback feature allows me to take my dog with me anywhere I want to go and is also plenty of room if I wanted to take a trip with my husband, son, dog and all of our luggage.
Cons
My first disappointment with the 2008 CX-7 was there was no iPod hook up capabilities that came standard with the vehicle. In the 2008 model year, it was an extra feature. I believe Mazda made this a standard feature from 2009 on. The other negative about this vehicle was the cost to replace the tires. Since it is an SUV, the tires are larger and thus cost more than regular car tires. The sound system is also average. The fuel economy is less than average.

2008 Mazda CX-7 - Not luxury but very practical.

The engine has had a lot of trouble. It was one of the first years they put turbo charge engines in. There has been several recalls on this model. Ranging from timing chain, airbags, and control arms. The car is very comfortable to sit in and easy to drive. I feel very safe in the car. It is a small SUV, but I am able to have three car seats in the back seat, and everyone is comfortable. Maintenance is rather expensive because of labor. Getting to any part in the engine means removing most of the engine to get to it. Also, the car has no traction so any type of rain and the car slides everywhere. It also holds and extra quart of oil, so oil changes cost extra. And the rims are larger, so tires are very expensive. Overall, I would purchase another Mazda of the same make just of the cur... Story
Driving from Austin to Nacogdoches (4-hr. drive) every weekend for two months. I lived turning up the music and driving through the country. The car is fast and comfortable for long-distance driving.
Pros
Comfort driving and the power of the engine.
Cons
Lots of recalls and needs a lot of maintenance.
