The E-class is Mercedes' equivalent of premium business-class among the top airlines. It offers all the comfort, convenience, performance and safety of the top-of-the-line S-class, but at a far more affordable price. This is a car that does everything well. It will cruise all day at Autobahn speeds with rock-solid stability, agility, performance and efficiency. Handling and braking are as good as it gets. The quiet cabin offers comfort, space and an overall soothing, pleasurable, comfortable environment to enjoy a long day's travel for the driver and passengers. The driver gets an extra measure of joy felt through the steering, brakes, suspension and drive-train of one of the finest cars on the road. The fit and finish, as well as the overall build quality, is typical Mercedes-Benz, wh... (more)
Pros
There are many pros: Build quality; comfort; safety; performance; efficiency; longevity; reliability; driving enjoyment and pride of ownership.
Cons
Mercedes has been a leading innovator in using technology in its cars. With the introduction of new technology sometimes comes problems such as electrical gremlins. Check the service records to see if the vehicle has been well-maintained and don't buy one that appears to have been neglected.

This car is the best all-round vehicle made anywhere. Although the car doesn't excel in many areas, it is the combination of attributes that make it a delight to own and to drive. In terms of handling, performance, safety, dependability, comfort, pride of ownership, and build quality there is nothing better in my opinion. I'm now well into the second 100,000 miles and the car still feels as solid, stable, comfortable and safe as it always has. This is my third Mercedes, all of them purchased used, and I've enjoyed every minute of ownership of all three. Mercedes has a way of building intangibles - a subtle, special character - into its cars that is difficult to describe. I know that the faster you drive this car the better it feels.
Story
I've driven in some memorable snow storms with this car, many when I should have been home and not on the road. I can't begin to describe all the times that in the midst heavy snow and ice, when many other vehicles, including suv's, were off the road or unable to move forward, this car has always gotten me home safely.
Pros
The pros for this car: a joy to drive, comfort, solidity, stability, overall safety, reliability, outstanding performance in the snow (I live in Vermont), It is the best all-round car available, in my opinion. With its stability and traction control, together with a really good set of the kind of winter tires that we get here in the frozen north, this is the perfect winter vehicle.
Cons
There are no cons with this car, except to say that gas mileage in the low 20s is now getting to be less than ideal.
