1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Owner Ratings & Reviews

1999 Mercury Grand Marquis - Large vehicle with luxurious ride
This vehicle is my 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis, gold color. It is now going on 16 years old, and it offers a very smooth ride. It feels very powerful, and has plenty of leg room. It floats along just great, especially driving along the highway. It has been reasonably reliable over the years.
Story
I would say, years ago, before I got married, I took this car out with me on a first date, and the date was impressed with the car. She didn't stop talking about how wonderful the ride and interior were. We also had a great experience at a local restaurant using this car to get there.
Pros
The top positive things about this vehicle are the ride, the looks, and the overall durability of the vehicle. It really, really shines while driving down the open highway at steady speeds. Here is where its a real pleasure to drive. It handles so nicely, its smooth and quite inside, and has no rattles. It also has a very heavy and substantial type of feel to it.
Cons
Ok, the first negative thing would be gas mileage. I haven't done any exact mileage calculations, but I'm guessing it gets 20 miles, at best, on the open highway, and even lower on city streets with stop and go traffic.
Also, while fairly reliable, it has had one major "unpleasant" surprise repair needed over the years, and this was the air conditioner. It was a somewhat expensive repair.
1999 Mercury Grand Marquis - Comfortable ride
The Grand Marquis is a comfortable ride. It is spacious, with comfortable seats. The engine is very quiet, which makes for an even more pleasant ride. I frequently compare the Grand Marquis to a Cadillac. It has a powerful V8 engine, which is great to have in the winter because it warms you up very quickly. The car handles remarkably well in snowy conditions, with snow tires.
Story
I once drove my friends to and from a Superbowl party in my Grand Marquis in the middle of a blizzard. The Grand Marquis didn't get stuck in the driveway, but all the other guests' cars did. I was really proud of how my card handled in the inclement weather.
Pros
The Grand Marquis is something of a status symbol, being that it's a luxury car. People often feel nostalgia for the Grand Marquis because the Mercury brand is now defunct. My friends enjoy riding in my car because it is spacious and comfortable. The car has a great appearance and is hardly a cause for embarrassment to be seen driving one.
Cons
I only get about 17 miles to the gallon in my Grand Marquis. I am a student and often hard-pressed to find gas money. At times, I wish I had a four-wheel drive vehicle because the roads are poor, especially in the winter where I live. The Grand Marquis achieves good traction in the snow with snow tires equipped, but the setup is far from ideal. It's a big car and not the easiest to park or navigate crowded city streets.
