My 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis is a solidly built vehicle designed with luxury and reliability in mind. I like its appearance, performance and quality. The interior is roomy with the ability to seat six persons comfortably. Even with 140,000 miles, the leather is in excellent condition. My mother-in-law loves the wood-like trim.
Story
The most memorable event was taking it off road to avoid several deer crossing the highway. Wasn't particularly fun.
Pros
The 4.6L V-8 performs well on freeway ramps and cruises easily at highway speeds, while still getting slightly over 20 miles to the gallon on long trips. Even in city driving, with a light touch on the accelerator, the mileage is only slightly less than the mini-van I previously owned. Well-built, the interior doors open and close solidly, with little or no wind noise. The trunk is so large, I use it to take my lawnmower to my mother-in-law's house. The reliability is great; many miles and few component failures, just routine replacement for wear and tear.
Cons
The design of the center console under the dashboard is lacking. Normal use and the trim at the bottom broke off. Tire wear under normal, non-abusive use seems high. The wheel center caps do not stay on well and/or are easy targets for theft. I'm seriously considering getting one-piece hubcaps. The driver's side seat belt buckle is placed too tightly in from center and is uncomfortable on long trips.

2005 Mercury Grand Marquis - Spacious, well-built, comfortable, powerful.

This vehicle is one of the most spacious, comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. It has a powerful v-8 engine, with nice acceleration from a stop, and good passing power. It has a relatively quiet ride, with some throaty motor noise upon heavy acceleration. The seats are large and very cushioned, almost like a couch. The sound system is nice enough, with a good selection of options for front/back sound, etc. Cooling and heating work quickly and efficiently, with no noticeable drop in engine performance. The tilt steering wheel adjust to many different positions, and the driver's seat has power options.
Pros
I really love the roominess of this vehicle. The trunk space is amazing. We carry so many things in there. I take my mother shopping, and she purchases lots of cases of soda, etc., and there is never a shortage of space. The car comes with a full-size spare tire, which is stored on a sort of "shelf" in the trunk, leaving loads of space for cargo. The seats are plush and soft, and very comfy. The windshield is at a nice angle for road view, and the power windows are terrific. The rear windows roll down all the way, which is a really nice option. The car is an attractive light blue color. It... (more)
Cons
There are not enough cup holders in this car. There are none available for rear seat passengers. Also, since this car is shaped the same as the Ford Crown Victoria, sometimes people will think this is a law enforcement vehicle and will slow down too much in front of you. The fuel mileage isn't the best, either.
