I bought this car as my first brand new vehicle when I was 20. Everything worked very well in the car, and I encountered no mechanical issues with it. The only issue I ever had with the vehicle was that the in-dash stereo unit was a little dated, having only a CD player and a radio. It was very easy to replace with an affordable after-market unit though.
Story
I used to drive through the hills near my hometown and enjoy the curvy, sharp roads. The car handled them quite well.

I did not know of the existence of this particular Lancer model, but I was forced to research this car due to rising insurance costs. I went to the dealership and was handed the keys to the Lancer reliant with 5 speed manual transmission, the moment I slipped the transmission into first gear and rolled away, I knew deep in my heart that my search for a car was officially over. I took a left turn out of the dealership and headed straight for the interstate where I merged into traffic with authority. The smooth clutch and short throw transmission were a pure joy to operate. Torque is present in abundance with no need to downshift to pass. The handling is telepathic and this car has a great sounding exhaust.
Story
One time me and my dad went on a camping trip in the Lancer, it started raining on the way there and the road was very slippery. My dad was telling me an old story and I got distracted for a bit and swerved but got back in control and my dad spilled his coffee on his lap and said "that reminds me of another story". Thanks to this cars control and some skills we were safe. Awesome car.
Pros
Smooth ride, quiet and very responsive handling.
Cons
Would like to have seen a 5 or 6 speed automatic and better mpg. but can't complain for the money a great car!
