I love my Nissan Xterra. I love to be outdoors and need a vehicle that can stay up with my lifestyle. From the beach to the hill county it has been an amazing vehicle for both myself and 3 dogs that are always going with me. I do wish the technology was more up to date, especially for hands free driving and the ability to charge multiple devices being that I am outdoors often. Lastly, I do believe the interior fabric is pretty poor. Everything seems to stain.
Story
I'm always having fun in this vehicle. This Memorial Day weekend I took my husband and three dogs up to New Braunfels to play in the river. I just lay down the seats in the back with a thick blanket over interior for the dogs. I keep towels and x water in the storage under them and we had an amazing time. Pros
The Nissan Xterra is roomy and also has the versatility that I need with hiking, biking, and my dogs. I like that it rides high above most traffic/terrain/water coming. When I drive my car then get into the Xterra I have noticed that I am seen better by others. The back storage compartment has come in handy more than a few times with storing my purse and other items I don't want stolen while out on the trail. Great cruising vehicle, I'm driving a lot and it is very steady on the road, tight steering and the ability to brake quickly.
Cons
I don't like the interior fabric. It stains easily and retains smell. The biggest con for me is I want the vehicle to do more. When I push the vehicle over slick terrain and up hill, it cant handle it. I have to ease off...I don't like easing off. I want to think this was Nissans answer to the Jeep however it cannot compete when it comes to terrain. As a trade off for the lack of technology in the vehicle, I wish more went into its performance in places like the beach, unpaved roads, muddy areas...I do live in Texas so these things are needed.

The 2015 Nissan Xterra I now drive is my second Xterra. I love the size, which is sufficient for a short to modestly long camping trip but small enough to not be a hindrance around town. We added a number of after-market features to make it even more roadworthy, and these were readily available from a variety of sources at a reasonable cost. It handles mountains, deserts, mud holes and snow very well.

Pros
Price was great. At $35K, I got a quality vehicle. Six-speed manual transmission versions were available, though not common. This might be my very last manual trainee vehicle. Trim the roof rack, seating, and rear cargo area are functional and tough. The roof rack easily accommodated an aftermarket carrying rack. This is a tough backcountry vehicle. I really like how it travels and really bites into the road.
Cons
Sirius XM was installed but is largely useless when traveling in rough country presumably because the roof rack combined with canyons and mountains interfere. The driver's side armrest is poorly formed for me. I really wanted a red one. Unfortunately, the nearest red Pro-4x with six-speed trainee was 350 miles away.
