I bought this car from a friend. It is fifteen years old, but it is one of the most comfortable and solidly built cars I have ever owned. It feels good on the road, and I really enjoy driving it much better than the other car in my household, which is only a year old. It has over 270,000 miles on it, and it is still going strong! I would recommend the Toyota Avalon and Toyota, in general, to anyone. When I have to replace this car, I will definitely consider Toyota!
Story
This is our beach car! We use this car for weekend fun, and it's served us really well for that due to the large trunk.
Pros
It is solid and heavy--this car doesn't float all over the road. At the same time, it doesn't feel awkward or clunky. The seats (both front and back) are very comfortable, and the trunk is a very good size for a car with a small footprint. The backseat fits three adults comfortably with plenty of legroom.
Cons
It's old and has over 270,000 miles. I do have to "baby" it a bit, and I'm getting a little tired of that. I've recently been having trouble with the engine coils and spark plugs, and I'm not sure how much more money I want to throw at it. The radio and clock just stopped working, and I'm always worried about what else might stop working. The key won't unlock the passenger side door. But these complaints are just features of age, not of the car itself.

This car was purchased used at about 80,000 miles. Even after an additional 100,000 miles, it still runs great. There have been normal maintenance requirements (replacing tires, breaks, sensors, etc.) But I have not run into any major repairs. It performs excellent on the highway, offering a very smooth ride. The body has held up very well. I have driven it across the country several times and it has always performed exactly as I expected.
Story
Driving to the coast is always a fun experience in the car. If the weather is not too hot or rainy, it is very enjoyable to roll down the windows and open the sun roof and breath the salty sea air.
Pros
It is a very comfortable car to drive. Heated seats were a great plus in the cold north. The interior materials are very high quality. Fuel efficiency has been consistent over the years. As the father of two small children, I am pleased that the back seat offers lots of space for two car seats and still has enough room for an adult to sit in the back. The trunk is also very spacious, with more room than many crossover type vehicles. We have been able to fit a large stroller plus a full load of Costco groceries. Additionally, the spaciousness has allowed us to pick up many sizable pieces of... (more)
Cons
The door to the gas cap was not designed very well. After owning it for two years it no longer closed completely. The gas cap still works fine, but the small access door no longer stays shut.
