2013 Toyota Avalon - Would be great, but fit and finish need work.

The car has had several issues which make me question its build quality. A mirror began whistling (result of the mirror case coming loose), the trunk pull handle broke, and the clips holding the driver's door armrest broke. When I purchase a car, I expect to get my money's worth. Things like a handle and armrest shouldn't have any issues - they are easy to build and design. There's no excuse for these failures. That said, I've been generally happy with the car. The V6 is peppy and the car's acceleration is aggressive when it needs to be. The car is generally quiet inside but has more road and wind noise than I'd prefer. The heated seats are amazing! They do a great job toasting buns. The car's been ok - I would say it's been great, but I have hangups about what I've experienc... (more)
Story
We took the car on a road trip to Las Vegas. We planned on Las Vegas being the highlight of the trip, but Las Vegas paled in comparison to the fun we had driving the Avalon there! The main routes in to Las Vegas were shut down due to severe weather during our trip, so at the last second, we decided to take an alternate route. We knew the route would take 1-2 hours longer, but figured it was... (more)
Pros
My favorite aspects of the car include its engine/acceleration, thick leather upholstery, and technology/accessories including seat warmers, audio/phone controls on the steering wheel, and touch screen display. The engine is fast, responsive, and can go as leisurely or aggressively as you'd like. It's nice having the horsepower to really "go" when you need it, and it's even better not having to wait for a turbocharger to wind up like you have in so many newer vehicles. The Avalon is one of the few vehicles in the Toyota/Lexus family that still uses real leather for upholstery and this i... (more)
Cons
The Entune entertainment system is janky - I have to have Bluetooth on and connected AND have a random app open on my phone in order to use my phone for the in-car entertainment apps. Please, just let me use android auto and move on already! Entune needs regular updates to fix weird behaviors, update maps, etc. However, the update process must take place at a Toyota dealership, and unfortunately most dealerships have no idea how to update it. Useless. I'm disappointed with the car's ride. When I bought my Avalon, I expected a buttery smooth ride with little road noise, a near-silent... (more)

I love the Toyota Avalon! It drives very well, especially in snow and rain (which we get a lot of where I live). I sit very comfortably in it and the sight lines are excellent. I feel very safe in the car, which is important for a woman. The car has not broken down in the past 2 years and the basic maintenance (which we've kept up with) has been very inexpensive. I'm not surprised at any of this. We own another Toyota that is a different model, and everything about this car applies to that one as well. Toyotas are just top quality cars!
Story
I remember piling all the kids in the car to watch the odometer roll over. We got ice cream after.
Pros
The controls are very intuitive and easy to use. The fan is very powerful and really cools the entire interior. The temperature (different for driver and passenger) is controlled digitally and is very easy to use. I really like all the room I have, too. You can easily carry a family of 6 with suitcases in this car, thanks to the very comfortable back seat and the spacious trunk.
Cons
I suppose if I had to come up with something negative, it would be the turning radius. The car doesn't seem as nimble as other brands. This is a small trade-off, though -- I would rather have a car that is less nimble and feels as solid as this one does.
