The Toyota Highlander has been a very reliable car. We put on about 18,000 miles a year in a variety of environments (city, suburban and highway), and it has been extremely reliable throughout. We like the roominess of the car, which allows us to comfortably accommodate our three kids and their friends. The car also is large enough to comfortably drive on longer trips (10-15 hours one way to Hilton Head!) and not have to cut back on luggage. When driving shorter distances or when we need to take a group of kids somewhere, we can also pop up the optional third row, which fits two comfortably and even three if needed. The only complaints we have about the car are its 'heaviness'. While it is easy to drive, responsive to sudden steering shifts and braking and we certainly feel in control ... (more)
Story
My son's bus did not arrive to the school in time to get the team to their athletic event an hour away. So they piled the kids in a bunch of cars, and I had six high school boys in this car for an hour trip. It was a bit crazy!
Pros
Reliability: This car is so reliable--we never worry it will have a sudden breakdown or have any sort of significant issue. Comfort: The car has a spacious interior, which makes it great for long road trips and to transport numerous people in the car. It has an optional third row, which adds to the capacity. Color: This is an option of course, but we love the muted blue color.
Cons
"Heavy feeling" on the road: This car is large, so it does not feel light on the road. However, it is easy to maneuver so there is no issue with car weight and ability to drive the car safely. Light cloth seats: Honestly, this shouldn't even be an option. Since we purchased the car on the lot, we didn't end up choosing the material or color. But if I had to do it again, I would choose a darker cloth or leather. Economy: Given the size of the car, the economy is decent...maybe 25 MPG. However, when gas prices increase, you do feel a pinch to fill up the tank for $40.

We are in love with our Toyota Highlander! After trying out the Rave 4 and the 4 Runner, the Highlander won out hands down! It has a smooth ride! The engine that it has is the same engine as what is in the Toyota Avalon, so the SUV drives like a car! All of the added "bells and whistles' on the car are actually things that serve a purpose and not just something to say you have in your car.
Story
When we first got our vehicle, we stopped for ice cream afterwards. Both my husband and I were excited over our new car, but our daughter could care less! She just wanted the ice cream. :-)
Pros
What I like most about the Highlander is how high up it sits! I feel like I can see all my surroundings. There are NO blind spots with this vehicle. You can see all around you. I have yet to drive a vehicle where I could say that! I love all the safety features it has, steel bars all around the car, the large amount of airbags it has. There are also shade built into the windows of the middle row, so little ones don't have to worry about the sun being in their eye. The back door can be adjusted to your height so it is easier to reach the door to close it.
Cons
There is only one thing I dislike about this vehicle: the doors automatically unlock when the car goes in drive, which I am ok with. But what I don't like is when the car is placed in park, the doors unlock. I don't like this. What if I am sitting in a parking lot and someone comes up and tries to get into my car while I am waiting for my kids? I like to be able to unlock my doors when I am ready. I contacted the dealership and they said that this feature can be fixed. I just need to take it back to the dealership and they can correct it. I will be taking my vehicle as soon as I can!
