My Toyota Avalon is getting up there in age and mileage, but it doesn't show it. I am the third owner on this car, and it still performs better than other cars its age. I have owned many vehicles in the ten years I have been driving, but this is by far my favorite. It has been reliable for me since day one, and the only upkeep I have needed to do has been simple things, like tires and oil changes. The Avalon gets good gas mileage for a luxury sedan. It has plenty of space for the family and provides a smooth ride. When I first got the car, I visited my mother to show her the car. Her neighbors were shocked to see that it was a Toyota. They thought it was a much more expensive brand. This particular car is similar to a Lexus, adding to the luxury feel.
Historia
I live in the Midwest, so we get random snow storms in the winter that tend to hit with little-to-no notice. One of these storms hit while I was at work. When I left, there were people pulled over to the side of the road everywhere, including some in trucks and SUVs. This little car was a beast in the snow, and was able to get home without issue by driving a bit slower and using a lower gear t... (more)
A Favor
The leather interior gives this car a very luxurious feel and is super easy to wipe off spilled drinks, melted candy, and other mysterious sticky substances. The backseat is large enough to fit two car seats and still have a third passenger without the person being cramped. The trunk space in this car is amazing. I can fit a month's worth of groceries for a family of five in this trunk. It makes running errands a breeze. The car is sold as a luxury sedan, but it gets gas mileage like a much smaller car would. The car is very low maintenance. In the years I have owned it, I have been limite... (more)
En Contra
The engine compartment is very cramped. Doing your own maintenance can be a challenge, simply because of the difficulty in getting to the parts to change them. The back seat does not fold down to allow for additional cargo space. Cup holders in the backseat are only accessible if there is no one sitting in the middle seat. Batteries in the key fob tend to run dead quickly. Parts tend to be a bit more expensive than for other cars. It requires the special Toyota antifreeze, which costs more than regular antifreeze.

2001 Toyota Avalon - Reliable and comfortable.

My Toyota Avalon was, for the most part, a dependable car that I very much enjoyed driving. The feel of the car was extremely comfortable. The steering was always nice and the breaking and acceleration was perfect for driving both around town and on highways. The seats were very comfortable to sit in for long periods of time as I had taken many long road trips with my Avalon with no discomfort. I have often taken four hour drives in other cars that would leave me sore or uncomfortable, but never with the Avalon. Regular maintenance was enough to keep the car in tip-top shape, and I had put on it over 140,000 miles over the course of 11 years. Driving others around was also very easy--I always received comments on how nice it was to ride in the back seat as it had quite a bit of room. T... (more)

I have many fond memories of my travels with that car as I was on the road very often. There was, however, a time that a chipmunk had created a nest behind the glove compartment by climbing up through the underside. The mechanic was very surprised to find the nest during an inspection!
A Favor
The Avalon was very spacious, had a lot of room, had very good maneuverability for basic needs, and was overall extremely dependable.
En Contra
Gas mileage was average and I do prefer cars with better mileage. After twelve years the engine failed and the car was no longer drivable.
