The most vanilla of all vanilla's.
I love many aspects of this vehicle. I get great gas mileage and it is a smooth ride. The thing is a utilitarian tank where I do not have to worry about picking up boards at Home Depot or bringing files to work. The car is comfortable to drive/ride in and is an easy drive. The only thing I don't like about it is how simple and vanilla the design elements are. It is almost as if Toyota spent all their budget on efficiency and reliability and had a Spartan budget for how the thing looked. It is, without a doubt, the most "vanilla of all vanilla flavors." You will be camouflaged on road because of this. You will blend in with the millions of other Camrys out there. For me, this is a welcome exchange. I'm not going for looks - I'm in it for reliability, comfort, dependability and most of all, saving a good deal of money on gas!

The gas sipper that doesn't look it.
I've had this Toyota Camry for about 40,000 miles now. I bought it because I wanted to start saving money on gas. I went from a premium, turbo-charged vehicle to a Camry Hybrid. A month later, oil started a slow decent, and I was practically cash-flowing! On a typical 30+ mile drive, I'm getting between 38-44 MPG. Just driving around town, maybe closer to 35 MPG. Very modest use of gas. Drives well -- the ride is smooth, but the hybrid relegates your "oomph" factor. The interior is comfortable but a bit Spartan. Toyota seems to put a lot of money into reliability, value and MPG but not a lot into design. I can, however, appreciate that this vehicle doesn't take on the form of a typical hybrid. While it has excellent MPG ratings, it doesn't have the aerodynamic look of a Prius or the odd-look of a Nissan Leaf. It's comfortably disguised as a regular old Sedan. The entertainment system is a no-frills, easy-to-use touch screen with great Bluetooth capability. There's plenty of room up front and in back. In fact, I've gotten away with putting multiple 2x4 boards and fishing rods in it! This thing is utilitarian! I give it a top-notch grade for "getting the job done," but taking away points for looking good while doing it.
