2005 Toyota Corolla - If it weren't for the paint, it'd be perfect!

The 2005 Toyota Corolla CE is the first car I ever bought completely new. I decided to buy it because my previous car, a Toyota pickup truck, actually died in front of the Toyota dealership in North Hollywood. Fortunately, I was gainfully employed (this was before the big 2009 recession), and had excellent credit, so I was able to get 0% financing and pay it off within five years. It is an excellent car, has gotten great gas mileage, and has been very reliable. The only downside is that shortly after I'd finished paying for it, the exterior paint started to deteriorate, and now there are big rust spots on the hood and roof. I can't afford to have it repainted so it just keeps getting worse. My husband calls it my "camouflage" and points out that it's unlikely anyone will try to steal i... (more)
Historia
I live in Southern California, and like to go for long drives. Shortly after getting this wonderful new car, I decided to drive to Las Vegas. I miscalculated on how much gas I would need, and wound up with less than a quarter of a tank, at 3 a.m., halfway between a little town called Cal-Ari-Nev and the next available gas station. Like Kramer on "Seinfeld," I decided to take a chance and see h... (more)
A Favor
First of all, this car gets excellent gas mileage. It was higher when I first purchased it than it is now, more than ten years later, but it still gets at least 30 miles to the gallon. Second, it is very reliable. I have only had a couple of mechanical problems, and neither of them were something that was caused by the car itself, but by outside factors (like my tendency to speed up over potholes). Finally, it is roomy enough for all my things (a car is basically an extra purse, you know), while still having a small enough footprint to be able to park easily.
En Contra
The biggest negative on this car is the deteriorating paint. At first, I thought it was my fault, because I parked it outdoors so much, as well as driving to and from Arizona on a regular basis. However, I have since discovered that a lot of other Toyota owners have had the exact same issue with the paint, which makes me feel a little better. Another problem, which also seems to be common, is that "little things" seem to break pretty regularly. Both the driver's side and passenger side visors are hanging on by one screw, and I can't seem to find a source to replace the ones that are missing.

2003 Toyota Corolla - Super reliable!

Even after owning it for over 10 years, this car still gets great gas mileage (35+mpg, higher for interstate driving) and is very reliable. We have had very few maintenance issues and the car performs well in all conditions. I went with the CE version of the 2003 Corolla because I didn't want the fake wood grain interior.
A Favor
This may be the basic version of the Corolla, but it has everything you need, including air conditioning. It gets great mileage and has needed little maintenance over the years. The latch system is great for securing car seats. There is very little body damage or rust, even after 11 years. It has a great amount of room in the trunk and if you fold the back seats down you can transport even larger things.
En Contra
The windshield washer could use more speeds. It has three. There are many times when none of the them seem appropriate, as they're either too fast or too slow to be of use. Also, if the back middle seat were not humped up, it would be easier to put a car seat there and more comfortable for any people that do end up sitting in that spot.
