If you're looking for a solid used pickup truck, the GMC Sierra isn't a bad way to go. You should be able to pick one up for fairly cheap from a used auto dealer or your favorite used truck website. It gets pretty good gas mileage, I average about 15-20 mpg depending on where and what I'm doing. For being an older truck, that's lived outdoors its whole life in the snow and salt. It's done pretty well at resisting rust and paint damage.
Story
Blasting through 30+ inches of powder snow is a lot of fun, just make sure you do it somewhere there isn't other cars to worry about. Also, watch out for hidden stumps under the snow, they'll ruin your bumper.
Pros
The interior is spacious and holds up well to abuse. It also has a great AC/heater installed. I've never worried about the inside being too hot or too cold. The truck bed is also pretty tough, so if you're planning on abusing the bed, it should hold up pretty well. Has plenty of power for towing anything a normal person would tow. It also handles pretty good in the snow/slippery conditions, just make sure you have some weight in the back if you elect to not have a topper over the bed.
Cons
The undercarriage is prone to have important components rust out. Things such as the fuel and brake lines are made out of steel vs. something that is corrosion resistant. If you are buying from somewhere where it snows or rains a lot, make sure you check underneath for rust otherwise you might have some expensive repairs to do. Another con is that the windows are prone to freezing up in the winter unless you drain the doors in the fall.

2001 GMC Sierra 1500 - Love this truck.

Its one of the best trucks I've ever driven, it has a lot of power and the body holds up pretty well to snow and salt, it has very little rust for the year of it. this truck will run forever if you take care of it and just do regular oil changes. I dislike how often I have to fill up the gas tank though but that's about the only thing I dislike about this vehicle.
Story
One of the most fun and memorable stories I have of this truck is taking pictures of it at sunset in open fields and taking it off roading every once in awhile.
Pros
The top positive things are that the truck is very comfortable and it sounds pretty good being stock, its not too terrible on gas, motor will run forever, sit decently high without a lift or leveling kit. my truck has almost 190k miles on it and still runs like its brand new.
Cons
The top negative things about this truck are that the shifting is sometimes hard and it will sometimes spin free before shifting into a gear so the tranny could be a little better, my tow haul likes to kick on all the time by itself. I also just recently had a problem with my brake caliber, the bolt had came out of my bracket and was not allowing me to drive forward. other than that the truck was great.
