Overall, I enjoy my Honda CRV and would recommend it to a friend or family member. I bought it from my mom, who had gotten it almost new in 2006. With regular maintenance, I haven't had any issues with the engine or running of the car. I also enjoy the perks such as the radio control on the steering wheel and the sunroof, as well as the good size. However, I wish the bumpers were sturdier and it had an alternative fuel source.
Story
My favorite story is during a warm-spell in the winter, driving around looking at Christmas lights with the sunroof open, blaring Christmas carols and singing along with a group of friends.
Pros
The engine has always worked very well. I've gotten over 166,000 miles on it, and have never had to take it into the shop for expensive repairs - there are no weird sounds, the gears shift perfectly, the breaks work. I enjoy having a sunroof and the radio controls on the steering wheel. It gets relatively good gas mileage for an SUV and is big enough so that I can put my bike in the back without having to buy an additional bike rack.
Cons
The bumpers, although cost effective, are plastic - so when I have bumped into things, they are completely broken (instead of just a dent, which I could live with). The gas mileage is ok, but it could be better if it was a hybrid or had an alternative fuel source.

2006 Honda CR-V - Excellent compromise between sedan and minivan

We purchased this CR/V when our 10 year old minivan (not a Honda vehicle) began to have problems with its electrical system, that numerous trips to repair shops failed to resolve. I loved the height of the minivan, but we didn't need that much seating on a regular basis, and a smaller SUV seemed like an excellent compromise. We've owned other Hondas (Civics) in the past and knew the brand to be reliable. It seats 5 reasonably comfortably, though 5 adults would result in a rather cramped back seat, and it holds a pretty good amount of luggage. The seats fold down and allow us to haul virtually anything we need, as well. We've now owned it for nearly 9 years, and continue to be very pleased. It has over 130,000 miles (our Civic has 180,000 miles). While there are minor quibbles (e.g.... (more)
Story
No specific memorable trip, but we used it on a lot of enjoyable Girl Scout outings.
Pros
Height, trade-off between comfort / seating (e.g. Minivan) and economy (e.g. Small sedan)
Cons
Headlight failures
