I was looking for something that I could tote some smaller pieces of wood working and equipment around in, as I am often finding myself in need of transporting materials. I didn't want another sedan, and a truck would have been too much on gas for my current tastes. The mid-size suv was the way to go for me, and the Honda CR-V seemed to fit the bill- and my wallet. It handles smoothly for an SUV, and I've never felt unsafe in the car. Overall, I'd say that it's going to be around for a while.
Story
Driving across Texas, it's so great to have the fresh air circulating with some good music and the sunroof top down.
Pros
It's definitely affordable for how long the car can last. With proper maintenance, I think this car will easily do 200k + miles in the long run. My current one is 8 years old now and hasn't needed any specific kind of work, other than the regular scheduled maintenance. The seats fold down and gives way to what seems like ample space. I bike, and the fact that I can fit my full-sized bike in the back and still seat five people is awesome! The console is helpful with the 3-d navigation and voice commands-which is more responsive than I'd anticipated it'd be. The sound quality of the stereo s... (more)
Cons
The anti-theft system can be a bit of a bugger. If the battery on the car dies out, the interior console with the navigation and stereo system will lock itself up and require a code from the manufacturer to restart. The car doesn't pick up and go like some would probably want, but this is a mid-sized SUV.

I have had my CRV for five years and I still love it. We only have one child but we have been able to fit the three of us and way more baby gear than needed for every road trip including around the holidays when we were traveling with gifts for the family. The gas mileage is great for an SUV and it got an A safety rating from Consumer Reports so I know my family should be safe. I would not want anything bigger because I really like having the good gas mileage. I will say that it is not recommended for large families. Unfortunately, you can only put two car seats in the back and the middle is really uncomfortable if you have two car seats installed. Otherwise, it is perfect and has a lot of extras available if you want them. I do not know how I did without a backup camera and an in dash... (more)
