2006 Mazda6 -- not for me.
I own a 2006 Mazda6. In the early days of ownership, it performed respectably. I have always liked Mazdas, and the price was low enough on a sedan model that I decided to apply for a loan for the car. Well, add a few years and the whole rig has been nothing but a lemon. Engine issues, transmission issues, belt issues, rear main seal issues, you name it. Even the interior has become thin and decrepit. The cheap plastic coating on the dash and front seating area has loosened from normal wear and tear to an extreme degree. Plastic is coming up and jutting out showing the unseemly underside of the interior. Needless to say, I am not pleased. My daughters have complained to me time and time again that they are embarrassed to have their friends in the car. Suffice it to say, being left stranded with a jittering vehicle hasn’t gone over too smoothly either. I had a Mazda Miata, a Mazda Protégé and others and none of them have shown such inferior built quality. The best thing about the ride is the cold A/C. Unfortunately, this means that next time I may have to think twice before I purchase a Mazda vehicle. This one has cost me an arm and a leg and has about hung me out to dry. My only hope is that this model was a one time flawed built contract. Never again.

Comfortable yet sleek
I loved the shape in general, especially the spoiler. The ride is smooth. The black interior is made from the softest fabric I've ever felt in a car. It's cozy enough to take a nap in! The gear shift is small, out of the way, and transitions easily. The trunk has plenty of room. It picks up speed quickly as well. However, the cloth from the roof did start to come down at the 10 year mark. Also, after several years of ownership, the paint began peeling off of one door in large pieces during some very cold weather. Another negative was that our engine completely blew up on it a few years after we bought it and we had to use our warranty to replace it. To be fair, this may have just been the previous owner's treatment of it. All in all, though, the car very rarely had to have repair work done.

Great car with minor problems.
When I bought this car, it was at the behest of my friend who had said that it was a great mid-size sedan/hatchback that had a good amount of durability to it. And I have had minimal issues with it. So I would have to agree, it is a very reliable car if you take care of it properly.
