I bought my 2006 Mazda 6 in used condition. I visited the dealership specifically looking for an attractive-looking car and fell for this model instantly. Imagine the body of a basic sedan with a bit of a sporty style. Although my Mazda had already driven 96,000 miles when I purchased it, she continues to run strong! She is now at 156,000 miles. I have had to do only minimal upkeep to the engine since buying my car three and a half years ago. The engine has four cylinders, just enough power without going overboard. The turning radius is tight, making for a smooth drive. The interior has a practical layout with typical amenities: cup holders, center console, locking glove box. One cool thing about driving this car is the option to operate manual or standard. You can easily switch betwee... (more)
Story
I work as a professional nanny. For years, I worked primarily for a family with three toddlers: twin girls and a younger boy. I was able to load all three of them in the back of my Mazda 6, in their car seats, so we could go on adventures to beaches and parks!
Pros
I love the way this vehicle looks. As someone who creates art and enjoys aesthetics, this was a very important consideration for me. This is also a really reliable car~ another important feature since I drive many places and am not personally adept at mechanical work. I love listening to music while I drive, and it sounds great in my car. The same battery has been in this car for 5 years and is still in good condition, which makes me think the engine pulls energy from it efficiently.
Cons
While I lived in a hot climate (South Carolina), the headliner of my Mazda started to peel off the ceiling and needs to be replaced. The air conditioning has never worked while I've owned it, even after having it 'bled of air' and 'charged.' The check-engine light is always on, even after having upkeep done, and mechanics never seem to know why. Unlike newer vehicles, this car does not alert the driver about specific maintenance that may be needed.

When I bought this car, it was at the behest of my friend who had said that it was a great mid-size sedan/hatchback that had a good amount of durability to it. And I have had minimal issues with it. So I would have to agree, it is a very reliable car if you take care of it properly.
Story
I took it to Lowe's and bought things for my new apartment, including vertical blinds which were about 84 inches in length. It wasn't until I got outside to my car that I thought, "Uh oh... I hope this fits". But sure enough I put the backseats down and they fit! I was so surprised, I thought I made a huge mistake.
Pros
It has had minimal need for repair, possibly needing about $1100 a year tops for repairs which in the long run is not extremely bad. I have driven about 125,000 miles so far and the car is still going. I do need to replace the bearings because they are starting to squeak pretty loudly right now. Although seating seems cramped at times, the back seats fold down which make the trunk space massive! I can carry really long lumber for home projects or pack up whatever I need for camping.
Cons
I would say that the worst part of ownership in terms of this car was the low profile tires on my specific car. They were constantly needing to be replaced because it took me awhile to learn to check the tire pressure at least once a week. I am not sure if maybe there was an issue with the rims being slightly rusted and having a slow leak or if it was that low profile tires are always like that. But it is by far the worst part of the car. Other slight issues are that at times it does feel somewhat cramped in the seating area.
