I love this car. Overall the shape of the car is more classic than the newer cars in the market. I can't beat the fuel consumption. Plus, it's really fun to drive. The 6-speed standard makes driving the car extremely fun. It drives like a luxury car, while in reality it definitely is not. There is enough electronics to make it nice, but not over the top. My favorite part: I put a roof rack on the car, I can carry four boats and four people without killing my mpg.
Story
It was my first car that is standard. It was fun to learn how to drive stick. Actually, I met my boyfriend as he was trying to teach me to drive stick.
Pros
The diesel engine ensures that the high mileage is not a big deal. I bought the car when it already had 115,000 miles on it, would never have know. Plus it has excellent miles per gallon, at about 40mpg. The interior is nice. There is plenty of space for me, the driver, and all the passengers. The trunk is roomy.
Cons
The negatives thus far is that its tough to find replacement parts at a cheaper rate. Also sometimes it is very hard to find diesel in the areas I travel into. It's big enough for me to sleep in the back, but it definitely depends on the other person if two of us are trying to sleep in it.

This has been a great vehicle for my husband, daughter and I. It is small and fast enough to get away from potentiality dangerous traffic situations but secure enough to not scare you when this happens. We have put on 160,000 miles over the past few years, and it still performs flawlessly. We do oil changes as recommended, and it seems to be all the maintenance the car really needs. My husband did have to replace the spark plugs on it last weekend, but that was the first "major" issue we have had with it. The only con I can think of with the vehicle is that the lights don't turn off automatically. I'm sure this has been updated on more recent releases of the golf, but there have been quite a few occasions when we accidentally left the lights on for a couple of hours only to find the ba... Story
Driving along A1A going down to the Florida keys. Listening to music with the windows down and ocean on either side of us. It was beautiful.
Pros
Speed, comfort, and good gas mileage.
Cons
Head lights don't automatically shut off, resetting the check engine light after an oil change is complicated.
