The Volkswagen GTI is a fantastic all-around car that is a blast to drive yet practical at the same time. Just fold down the rear seats and pop the hatch to find a large cargo area. The car has the pep and spirit to get you around town with a smile on your face. The 2.0 liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine is also incredibly reliable. The GTI's fit and finish are top-notch and you can tell you are driving a German-engineered car. The doors have a pleasant weight to them, nothing rattles or squeaks, and the ergonomics are incredibly intuitive and natural. On the whole, there are few, if any, cars in the same price range that could offer the same level of quality, reliability, utility, and performance in one package.
Story
Wondering how much cargo space the GTI has? I've packed 10 bags of mulch in the back of mine, with flowers and a bag of potting soil in the front passenger seat. Now that's efficient!
Pros
GTIs are still offered in manual transmission, which is increasingly rare. Another great feature is the back-up camera, which is cleverly hidden within the rear VS logo. This protects it from getting gunked up in bad weather. The car is also easy to maintain and needs very little. At 35,000 miles, my car has had no mechanical issues. Finally, the GTI SE and Autobahn come with the Fender audio system, which puts out fantastic sound.
Cons
My only slight complaint about the GTI is the lack of four-wheel drive. To get all-wheel drive, you need to jump up to the Golf R, which is not available with a sunroof.

Overall, the 2016 VW GTI lives up to the hype and its heritage as the original "hot hatch." It's slightly more expensive than similar cars in the segment, but I feel like the quality and end product justify the price.
Story
I recently arrived late to a concert and was trying to find parking in the event garage. I found a close spot because while many people in my area drive pickup trucks and SUVs. I was able to easily slot into a small space left between two larger vehicles.
Pros
Fast enough for a track day but can also be an economical daily commuter if you drive normally. The interior, including leg room, is ample for four adults and modest cargo, or two adults and generous cargo space. It's fun to drive on twisty roads and is small and agile in cramped city driving. The maintenance is pretty minimal, with services recommended every 10,000 miles.
Cons
My main complaint about the vehicle is the infotainment. The system itself is very usable and intuitive, and I do like the added Android Auto/Apple CarPlay integration, but the screen is a bit small. The rear view camera is somewhat imprecise, and I end up just using the mirrors. Speaking of which, for a car in this segment, I was expecting an auto-dimming rear view mirror, which this does not have.
