This has been a great reliable family car. The 3rd row was what drew us to this car because at the time there were only a few crossovers on the market. There is plenty of space, and its very easy to drive. We've had the car for 10 years, and it's gotten us through the young children phase. The transmission is different than most other cars. It has the same type of transmission as a snowplow, which makes it extremely fuel efficient. That was another selling point at purchase. You won't win any acceleration contests with this car, but that makes it safe for the family. It has in the last year developed some squeaks and wobbles which can be attributed to its age. We've taken many trips in this car, and it's seen us through raising our babies. Two of our three children rode home from the hospital in this car. it definitely has a piece of my heart.
A Favor
This car is extremely easy to drive. Its been very safe and reliable. The space for the gas mileage is outstanding. The car really gets amazing gas mileage when in cruise control on the highway. It's been fun to see how far we can get on one tank of gas. The seats are comfortable, and there are more than enough cup holders. The car runs very quietly and the outside noise control is great when traveling. There are very few cons to this car. The biggest issue we've had is the seats stain very easily. Even water leaves a dirty looking stain. We've tried to have them professionally cleaned, but after an initial look of cleanliness the stains returned a few weeks later. The acceleration leaves a lot to be desired. The type of transmission that makes it so fuel efficient also makes it slow to accelerate. Not really a big problem for a stay at home mom with three kids. We traded our 2002 Ford Explorer for an 2007 FWD Freestyle SEL about eight months ago. This is a terrific vehicle in styling, comfort, utility, performance, and reliability. The first time my sister took it on a long road trip she called enroute to ask if I thought the gas gauge was faulty. This question came because of the gas tank indicator dropping so slowly, mileage turned out to be around 32 mpg with cruise set at 75. Keep up the good work Ford!!

SUV appeal yet with car like handling. The turning radius is not great. Back-up camera.

Not a lot of space. Uncomfortable. No rear seat center armrest. No bottle holders on side door.

This is by far the best car I have ever owned. I bought it used with 36K miles on it and was a little leery of it but it is just great! The ONLY thing I have a problem with is there happens to be no auxiliary plug in on it for my MP3 player. But I can live with that. I can't believe Ford discontinued this car, what a mistake. My husband has a 2008 Taurus X which is what they renamed it before they discontinued it. He loves his too!

Its all-new powertrain is a definite highlight but the bigger star of the Freestyle's show is its excellent ride and handling package. The car uses the same struts as the Figo but spring rates are different and Ford has nailed the setup. The Freestyle has no trouble gobbling down broken roads without unsettling its occupants or losing composure itself. It remained unfazed on some of the worst terrain, including the hard packed, potholed soil on the salt flats of Sambhar Lake near Jaipur. The biggest negative in this model is the lack of projector headlamps or LED DRLs. In fact, the top-end model comes with regular halogen units. With projectors and LEDs, the model could have offer better visibility during night driving.
