I bought my Kia Rio used for around $4,000. Initially, I liked it very much. It was clean, it was compact, and it was affordable. It was smart looking. The one thing I liked about it was that it got great gas mileage, around thirty-four miles to the gallon. I made a nine hundred mile trip and only spent about $90 on gas. It still does get great gas mileage, which is the one and only thing I like about this car. I have had so many problems with this car I don't know where to begin. The biggest issue for me has been the timing belt. If you aren't made aware, your timing belt will destroy your engine. It needs to be checked every 40,000 miles. I wasn't made aware. One day, as I was parked thirty some miles from home, I tried to start my car, and it wouldn't start. My dad came... (more)
Story
My family bought a bus to travel in and i traveled alongside them in the Rio.
Pros
Good gas mileage, small
Cons
The engine is constantly at risk of being torn apart by the timing belt

The car is built for a small family of four. I would not recommend for a family with over three kids and that includes a car seat. Literally, not enough space for everyone. Very uncomfortable if taking a long road trip over four hours. For example, the car is excellent with gas mileage over the road—a tank of gas will certainly save you tons of money versus flying entire family. Interior material holds up very well, no mechanical issues to date. Owned car for over 4 years and car is still in good condition and retain equity and value if you maintain vehicle records. Next, I love the outside color of the vehicle: orange. Underneath the hood is very easy to navigate since most of the major components can be seen easily without having to remove every last part under hood to fix one item.... (more)
Story
This vehicle is able to drive on the beach easily with no issues. Love the fun in the sun!
Pros
Great gas mileage—Fill up tank with $20 or less. Trunk space. Seats let down in backseat and allowed for moving ease. Tires very reasonable replacement cost. Tinted windows—cool inside when A/C needed to be replaced.
Cons
Car was economical—small, none of the more up to date features, no Bluetooth, or cruise control. This model was the base with rear spoiler—no console, power windows or locks.
