I really like the versatility of the GTI, being a hatchback I can put the dog in the car and have room for other things too. The little 1.8 Turbo engine does a pretty good job at getting up and going. It's decently quick for such a small engine. The car was pretty stylish for the generation. It's smooth and sleek compared to some other 2003 cars. The ride is very comfortable and it does a great job in the steering category. The seats are a little uncomfortable and take some adjusting to get used to. At this point I've got it adjusted to where I have no uncomfortability, but my passengers sometimes complain. You can feel how light the car is around corners and it sticks to the road quite well. There are virtually no blind spots in the car because of the large rear windows and hatch. I d... (more)

It's quite fun to drive around and speed. I've done a bunch of the maintenance myself and it's fun to learn about a new model of car.
Pros
Performance, handling, design, MPG.
Cons
Maintenance costs and frequency.

I have owned two 20th anniversary GTIs, and I wish I could find more but sadly only 4,000 were made. It has the AWP 1.8t motor, 6-speed transmission, premium wheels, and sporty suspension compared to its typical GTI counterpart. Has stock racarro seats, which hold you nicely in place as you take corners. As with any other VW, it holds its own stereotypes. I've had to fix several components on the vehicle; however, I have not had any major downtime other than an afternoon here or there. It's easily customizable with a plethora of aftermarket parts to make it your own. If you are handy and willing to learn, it's fairly easy to work on.
Story
This is the car for having fun and taking road trips in. My wife and I drive up and down the CA coast with the sunroof open and the radio blasting.
Pros
My favorite thing about the vehicle is the look and feel. The gas mileage is good as well. I grew up working on cars, and most parts are interchangeable from Jettas, golfs, and GTIs, so finding most parts at a junk yard is very easy. The front seats have a really cool feature when flipping them forward and allow a lot of room for someone getting into the back seat. While I was working in construction, I was easily able to fit all of my tools in the cargo area. Plenty of room in the back for groceries, and with the wide opening, it is ideal for loading and unloading. The all black trim is v... (more)
Cons
Being a special edition makes for a few challenges while looking for specific parts. The wheels, brakes, transmission and a few other parts are exclusive to this model and make for a challenge when needing replacements. For some strange reason, seat heaters aren't including even though they come in the most basic model Golf.
