2004 Volkswagen Jetta - Point A to Point B in style
I have a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Edition. The car has about 202,000 miles on it, and it feels like its got a lot of life left in it. It's small wheelbase makes for a great handling car and it has yet to leave me stranded. It has surprisingly withstood 12 years of Northern New York winters without accumulating much rust. In fact, the car has been a beast in the snow. It's front-wheel drive set up along with its lightweight design has made it a pretty reliable winter vehicle for as long as I've owned it.
Story
I have driven the Jetta from upstate NY to southern West Virginia on dozens of occasions. This car has plenty of memories throughout these many road trips. Many of them involve napping for several hours at various rest stops in PA and VA.
Pros
The fuel mileage in the Jetta is fantastic. I usually average around 33mpg at modest speeds on the highway. The transmission also shifts very smoothly and easily. My favorite aspect of the car by far is the interior, though. The seats are incredibly comfortable and they really make long road trips bearable.
Cons
The only negative part of the Jetta is it's speed. This car is very very slow. I have the 2.0L naturally-aspirated engine which has a 0-60 time of about 3 hours. It has enough horsepower to merge off of an on-ramp but not nearly enough to have any fun with.
2004 Volkswagen Jetta - A basic car for a basic girl.
I used to get made fun of for my Jetta. I guess there is a stereotype that all single girls drive Jettas. I thought about it and laughed at being called "basic." I would just shrug it off because my Jetta is awesome. When I was looking for a newer car, all I wanted was four doors, automatic transmission, and a sun roof. Not only did I receive this for a fair price, but I was in love with it. This car suited me. It is comfortable to ride in and drive. Just when I didn't think it could get any better, I find out this car has turbo as well. It was really fast on the pedal, and it had a touchy brake, but I learned how to maneuver the starts and stops. My favorite thing about this car is it is excellent for road trips. It is such a smooth ride. Changing lanes or flipping a U-turn, the Jetta... (more)
Story
I think I had mentioned this earlier. But my Jetta made it up this huge mountain that has the best trails for mountain bike riding. My Jetta made it up that mountain. Dirty, dusty, rocky gravel with a bunch of divots. After my grueling bike ride, I was finally back down to my car. I was the only Jetta. Everything else were Subaru Outbacks and Jeeps.
Pros
I love how comfortable this car is. My passengers are comfortable. My sidekick next to me can chill out and just enjoy the ride. The sound is amazing; it has the original speakers, and they still bang. I'm a bike rider as well, and I threw up a bike rack up top, and it looks so freaking cool up in the mountains. It has multiple gears, even though it's an automatic, which I had no idea existed. It can make it up any mountain. That thing can climb. I love being up in the mountain with my Jetta after finishing my bike ride and seeing everyone else get into their crossover SUVs, and I'm the on... (more)
Cons
Alright, the cons. Let's talk regular maintenance, getting your oil changed, antifreeze, coolants, thermostat, all the basics. It is expensive. My oil has to be synthetic, which is like double the price. The antifreeze, even though tons of brands say they are good for all cars, they aren't. I have been yelled at by my mechanic because he would have to flush out the wrong kind of coolant I would put in. Even though the bottle I bought said for any car. The antifreeze is a special red kind that I will never forget the color. There is a check engine light that is constantly on. It means nothi... (more)
