This year's VW Jetta Sedan is a sporty yet practical looking vehicle. I have bought 2 Jettas and I like this 2008 Sedan model the best! The car has been driven many miles, over 100,000 and I am the 2nd owner of the vehicle. The interior roof liner has fallen and I have had it repaired, so that's a negative. Last year the gas tank opener square on the side of the vehicle locked on me and the automatic unlock malfunctioned and wouldn't open the area on the side of the car so that I could fuel it up, arggg. But overall I really like my car. These two things are the only problems that have arisen on the vehicle. The vehicle is a smooth ride and very comfortable seating. My vehicle has a sunroof and it's weather striping did come loose last year as well, the dealership repaired that problem... (more)
Story
I carpool for the children on my street for my daughters school and one morning when the interior liner fell, one of the neighbor kids said " The sky is falling!". We all got a good laugh that morning.
Pros
Good gasoline mileage. Comfortable seating for long rides. Well made vehicle, problem free.
Cons
Problem with fuel tank door locking on me. Headliner inside of car fell, but we live in Texas with high summer heat and humidity.

2008 Volkswagen Jetta - Nice drive but iffy dependability.

When I first bought my Jetta in 2008, I loved it. It drives very nice overall and is very responsive. After a year or two, I started noticing the sunroof having a mind of its own. It will move itself up and down on its own, which makes me nervous that the electrical components are not very good. The light bulbs for the headlights also have to be replaced often, but I have been told it's just because the style of light is more high powered, so it's just the price you pay for a car like this. Same for the spark plugs. They burn out faster than most cars, but it has to do with the performance of the car, so I can't complain too much about that. The past few years we have had to pour in about $4,000 in repairs, most of which was not routine maintenance. It makes me wonder if leasing a... (more)
Story
We have taken this car on a few road trips around FL, and it drives great and is very comfortable.
Pros
The performance and styling I would say are the best things. It drives great and, overall, it is a nice-looking car, especially for the price.
Cons
VWs are unfortunately expensive to fix. We have already had to replace the A/C, braking system, temperature gauge and alternator in addition to routine maintenance such as oil and filter changes, flushes, tune-ups, batteries, light bulbs and tires.
