2007 Volkswagen Jetta - Reliable used car.
My vehicle is over 10 years old, with over 100,000 miles on it, and I have yet to have a major problem. This is a reliable car that gets me to where I need to be, no matter the weather. I was able to safely navigate home in a blizzard through hilly roads, withstood over 50 mile per hour winds driving over a bridge, and drove through 2 inches of standing water without a single problem. The car has great traction in the snow. One thing I've noticed about the car is that it shakes when I get above 70 mph, although this is a minor inconvenience because I rarely drive that fast. It is the perfect car for my commute to work, trips to the mountains, and visits to the beach. I get excellent gas mileage for my suburban commute (around 21 mpg), so the car is easy on the wallet too. I have never ... (more)

I have never experienced an issue with the aux cord connection, interior/exterior lights, or dashboard. The car's interior has held up well over the past ten years, and the materials look and feel high-quality and durable. Overall, this is a classy car with excellent performance.
Driving the car around the cliffs in Newport was a memorable experience with my friends! Coasting along the beaches with the sunroof down, windows open, and radio playing was a perfect summer day.

I like to travel to different state parks, hiking trails, and beaches, and my Jetta has accompanied me on every trip. I can easily fit duffel bags, camping equipment, a several suitcases in the trunk. The car itself can power up steep terrain and navigate tight curves. The interior itself is sleek and classy. There is plenty of glove box and trunk storage, and I particularly enjoy the adjustable center console and large sun roof. I have great gas mileage-- I average about 21 mpg, which is perfect for me because I am always on the go. Finally, I love that I can charge my phone and use a navigation system because there is more than one charging port in the vehicle.
There are very few negative things about this vehicle. First, because the car has an all-black exterior, things like dirt and pollen are very apparent, especially during the summer. Another thing that I've noticed is that the car shakes when I drive faster than 70 mph on a highway. There are no mechanical issues of note, but it can be frustrating for someone sitting in the passenger seat, which is where the rattle is more apparent. Another negative aspect of the car is that the stereo system stopped playing CDs. All that can be heard is static, although the radio and AUX connection work pe... (more)

Another negative aspect of the car is that the stereo system stopped playing CDs. All that can be heard is static, although the radio and AUX connection work perfectly fine. Lastly, I wish there was an air vent in the backseat; the front of the car is comfortable in extreme heat or cold, but the air doesn't always circulate to the people in the back.
2007 Volkswagen Jetta - Drives well but has electrical issues.
The car is built well and continues to allow for a quiet, comfortable and smooth driving experience, even with over 100,000 miles driven. The engine is powerful, and the car is fun to drive, because it can accelerate quite quickly when needed. It also handles surprisingly well in snowy and icy conditions. The exterior of the vehicle is very attractive and has held up well, but the interior synthetic material on the seats has cracked and has a very worn appearance. The trunk space is more than adequate and can accommodate multiple guitars, amplifiers, and other pieces of musical equipment at the same time. However, there have been repeated electrical issues with the vehicle, most notably a failure of the automatic locks. We have had issues with both doors not locking and not unlocking u... (more)

However, there have been repeated electrical issues with the vehicle, most notably a failure of the automatic locks. We have had issues with both doors not locking and not unlocking unless opened from the inside. All of the doors have been affected at one time or another, and the issues will seems to spontaneously resolve themselves and then appear again out of nowhere. We have also had issues with the alarm going off at random times. The frustration with the electrical issues has really overshadowed our otherwise positive experience with the car.
We had a really bad snow and ice storm this last winter, and the roads by our house didn't get plowed. We had to use this vehicle to get around, and we're surprised at how well it did. The ride was bumpy, but the traction kicked in when needed, and we didn't have any issues keeping control.

The most positive aspect of this vehicle has been its driving performance. The engine is powerful and accelerates quickly and easily. The car handles well and is easy to steer. The drive in this car is smooth and quiet with minimal road noise. The car also has a good turning radius and can easily make a U-turn when needed. The car handles icy conditions well and seems to pick up traction better than expected. The car has an excellent stereo system with speakers that have held up well. The trunk space is very generous and can hold multiple suitcases if needed. There have been minimal repairs needed to the vehicle beyond routine maintenance. The gas mileage is very competitive for a car of this size/age. The easy to access latch system in the car makes car seat installation very convenient and easy, and we can comfortably fit two car seats in the backseat.
The electrical issues are the biggest downside to this car and are so frustrating that they largely overshadow all of the good aspects of the car. The automatic locks are inconsistent and will randomly stop working for no apparent reason. For example, I will get out of the car and go around back to get my child out of his car seat to see that his door is still locked, even though every other door is unlocked. I will push the unlock button on the key FOB, but the door remains locked. I will then push the "all unlock" button on the inside of the front door, but his door remains locked. The o... (more)

For example, I will get out of the car and go around back to get my child out of his car seat to see that his door is still locked, even though every other door is unlocked. I will push the unlock button on the key FOB, but the door remains locked. I will then push the "all unlock" button on the inside of the front door, but his door remains locked. The only way to get it open will be to reach around and open his door from the inside. This has happened to both back doors and occurs randomly and inconsistently but is extremely annoying. Similarly, doors will often not lock. For example, I will hit the lock/alarm button on the FOB. Then when we return to the car, my husband will go to open a door not realizing I haven't hit the "unlock" button yet. The door will open for him, but the alarm will go off. So, clearly, the FOB communicated to the car well enough to turn the alarm on, but it didn't communicate that the door needed to be locked as well (even though the same button controls both actions). When we called the dealership, they quoted us as much as $1,000 per door to fix the problem with no guarantee it wouldn't happen again. Through internet research, we have found that the electrical issues with this car seem to be common. Other cons of the vehicle are that the interior material on the seats hasn't held up well, and the cup holders are very limited in the sizes of cups they can hold.
