I traded up from a Mazda Tribute to my 2012 Dodge Journey. It is not a typical SUV; in truth, it handles more like a sedan. After over 60,000 miles though, I am totally satisfied with my purchase. It is quiet on the highway; I've driven it on several multi-day road trips, and it's the most comfortable trip car I've owned. The seats, while not luxurious in upholstery or advance settings, are comfortable enough that I feel refreshed even after 5+ hours of driving. Even on hilly roads, I get 25-30 mpg on the highway, around 20 in the city. Its controls for the A/C and heater took a little getting used to as many settings are on the touchscreen, but it was easy to acclimatize myself. The settings for lane departure alarms, whether to honk the horn when locking the doors, and how long to le... (more)
Story
When I bought this vehicle, I had just one dog -- a German Shepherd named Chelsey. Through no effort of mine, I now have three dogs. This vehicle has enough room in the back that Chelsey still commands the best view -- with her head in between the two outer back seats, and her brothers have enough room on either side of her to look out the windows. That wouldn't have been the case in my old SU... (more)
Pros
I love the separate climate controls for front and back, the third-row seating with cup holders, and how smooth the ride is even 60,000 miles later.
Cons
If I could choose again, I would pick a more high-end upholstery. The basic upholstery holds on to stains and pet hair like a magnet. Also, I would not have chosen the special 19" wheels. It looks nice, but I don't think it's worth the extra cost when replacing the tires.

2012 Dodge Journey - A great family vehicle!

I moved to this vehicle from a midsized SUV and I have to say I enjoy driving this one more than my old vehicle. It is high enough for visibility without feeling like it will tip over when I turn at speed. The interior is well-designed, with all controls being in logical places and plenty of storage spaces throughout the vehicle. The mirrors are large and make it easy to back up and change lanes. Settings are easily changed via the touchscreen, such as headlight duration after shutoff, honking or silent door locks, Bluetooth connectivity, and lane change alarms.
Story
My daughter at first thought this vehicle was too similar to a minivan in appearance, too much a "Mom car." When we took it out for the first test-drive though, I gunned the engine on an interstate on-ramp to get ahead of a semi-truck and made the salesperson yelp in the backseat. She did not say it looked like a "Mom car" after that.
Pros
This is the first car I've owned with radio and cell phone controls on the steering wheel, and I really enjoy using them. Being able to change the station, volume, and band of the radio without taking my hands off of the wheel make me feel safer. The A/C and heater controls are within easy reach and give me greater control over the inside climate than any other car I've owned. The seats are comfortable and easily adjusted. And one of the deciding factors for buying this vehicle rather than a Honda CRV or a GMC Acadia or similar was the ability to have rear climate controls at a reasonable ... (more)
Cons
The one major negative about this vehicle for me is the interior upholstery. It is good-looking but extremely difficult to keep clean. Stains are tough to get out and dog hair sticks to it like Velcro. There are also a lot of nooks and crannies in the seats that trap dust and dirt and are difficult to clean out.
