2014 Ford Fiesta - Economical car good for everyday use and parallel parking
I have driven over 30,000 miles in one year in this car and it gets great gas mileage. Because of the bubble design, it is so easy to parallel park in downtown with this car - I can get into pretty much any spot I have my eye on. The actual space in the car feels quite cramped, mostly whenever I have a passenger, we bump elbows often. I have the hatchback and I love that the seats fold down to make the trunk bigger. I go to Ikea and buy furniture in this car and I am able to squeeze everything in with the seats folded down - kind of reminds me of a clown car when I start taking things out. I only paid $13k for this car and it is a true work horse. I've even taken it on mountain roads that are not paved and it has not fallen apart on me at all. Because it's a small engine, I bought the ... (more)
Story
I live up on a hill, and I have to go up this hill every single time I go home. As I mentioned before, this car does not do well on hills. I have to change over to the right lane every time I'm on this hill because people eventually pass me anyways. Also, this car has a relatively good turning radius, so armed with this knowledge, my husband decides to take a sharp U-turn and totally drove str... (more)
Pros
I love the gas mileage on this car. On good days I get upwards of 38-39 mpg, that's like the Prius that I borrowed from my friend which averaged about 33 mpg. The tank is small, about 9 gallons, so it doesn't cost me much to fill up. I love that it's so easy to parallel park because I tend to have meetups in impossible-to-park places. It really is made "Ford-tough", because my husband has driven over curbs with this car, I've taken it over potholes, gravel roads, you-name-it, and it still performs just like the day I got it. I love that it comes standard with hands-free calling, super easy... (more)
Cons
One thing that I overlooked when buying this car is the base model does not come with keyless entry. It's super annoying having to put your key in to unlock your car each time. If you like to drive fast and pass people, this is NOT the car for you. If you didn't get the updated engine and packages, like me, you are going to be one of those annoying grandma drivers on the road. It's almost impossible to pass anybody in this car, and also going up hills is a pain. Also, the vents in the front are right behind the steering wheel, so you can't use one of those clip-in phone holders that clip o... (more)
2014 Ford Fiesta - Good car
I bought this car used, in July 2015. The most disappointing thing is that right after I bought it, it began developing shifting problems in lower gears. When I took it to the dealership, the service associate told me this was a fairly common problem. I don't know if it's related just to Fiestas or to Ford vehicles in general. I've had two other Ford vehicles and this particular problem didn't crop up. So, that was annoying. The Fiesta is definitely a cheaper car all the way around (I had a 2010 Ford Fusion which I LOVED). It's got more plastic on the outside, and its safety measures are lower. Aside from the clutch/shifting issues though, it drives well. It has only 14000+ miles on it. Like all the Ford cars I've driven, overall it is fun to drive. I like the way Ford designs its cars... (more)
Story
Well, I haven't had it long, only a month. Though I do find it's quite easy to get up to 75 mph without intending to... Luckily no police were around.
Pros
Love the ambient lighting! It is so cool, though such a first-world luxury (I mean, do I really need to have eight different colors of lights to "set the mood"? No, definitely not. But it's fun anyway. I lucked out and got a Fiesta that had some bells and whistles, such as the "Tuxedo black" paint (sparkly metallic) that my 2010 Fusion had. It's pretty. The trunk is big enough to hold a bike rack and my fencing gear (think sport fencing, not yard fencing). Though it is currently a very hot summer in the NW, I'm sure come winter, I will appreciate the heated seats and the heated mirrors. Mo... (more)
Cons
The back seats have very very little leg room, especially behind the driver's seat when I'm driving (I'm 5'11"). Thankfully I have few passengers in the back seat behind me. When I do, they better have skinny legs!
I really really dislike the new grill in the front - it looks like a big gaping mouth to me. I like the chrome grill much better. Cosmetic preference.
There are still things I'm trying to figure out about operation, since my used car didn't come with a manual (who keeps the manual when they trade in a car??). The A/C climate control is not intuitive, and I haven't yet figured o... (more)
