I purchased the vehicle because I needed more control in an area of poor weather. I lived in Alaska on the top of a mountain and in the winter they don't always get around to shoveling. I wanted an SUV, but I wanted something that was manual transmission, something that had decent gas mileage, and something that wouldn't cost me a fortune. This was the best option at the time and I am very happy with the way it worked out. I've now put over 110,000 miles on it and I've been in 2 major accidents. I also had problems with a blown head gasket and, even though my car was out of warranty, the warranty company was willing to pick up 70% of the parts cost for replacing the engine.
Story
I used to throw my dog in the back and we would drive to the middle of Alaska and go camping somewhere. We had a really great time driving out to the middle of nowhere and just exploring.
Pros
I have a vehicle large enough to throw all my gear in. It didn't cost me a fortune and I've put some really hard miles on it. I love that it is manual and that I can have better control of the vehicle in the winter months when things are more slippery. I've had it for almost 10 years now and it doesn't look outdated. I really liked the 10 year, 10,000 mile warranty and when I had problems with my engine, it wasn't a fight to get them to fix it.
Cons
Some of the interior features are cheap. I like having a clean car and there are some areas that just don't stay clean no matter what I do to it. I would have liked to have had some other options for features, like a moon roof, or automatic start, or cruise control and my car doesn't have any of those. I also don't like that I need to be so close to the wheel to reach the pedals. They should have designed the vehicle to be able to have pedal extenders or something.
