Be really wary of pedestrians. A lot of students are freshmen who are from the suburbs or are coddled or, for whatever reason, don't know to look both ways before crossing. There are also lots of drunk college students at night who run across the streets when they shouldn't.

You really don't need a car; Berkeley is really small. You can get around by walking and by taking the AC Transit buses, especially if you're a student.

My favorite memory from driving in this city is driving past the students on the south side of the UC Berkeley campus. I attended UC Berkeley, felt homesick, and didn't enjoy college very much so I remember finding it very empowering to be able to whiz through crowds on my car while seeing the fuzzy colors of Telegraph Ave through my window.

Channing circle. I like Channing Circle because it's the traffic circle at the corner of Channing Way and Piedmont Ave, the cluster of streets where the fraternities and sororities are. My favorite part of my time at Berkeley was being in a sorority, and driving through frat row reminds me of fun nights at parties and daytime philanthropy events at Greek houses.

Drivers driving in this city should be aware of the pedestrians and make sure to watch out for the occasional walkers who may step out into the road when they are not meant to.

There are many dealerships in Berkeley that have high quality cars, numbers on the back of cars for people who want to sell their cars and also a huge list of sellers on craigslist. A very easy place to purchase a nice looking & reliable car.

Berkeley is a fantastic town that is very close to Oakland. It is the home of UC Berkeley, so student life is ingrained in the culture which means drivers are very aware of respecting pedestrians. The drive down San Pablo to Berkeley Bowl is very scenic and plain nice. The road is straight and though traffic can get heavy during peak hours but it is still pleasant.

San Pablo.. Driving from San Pablo down to Heinz street is pleasant. You do not see many pedestrians here but the scenery is really relaxing and the lights change often so one is not sitting for ages waiting to get to where they need to go. During off peak hours it is a very quick drive.
