2001 Hyundai Santa Fe - Great multi use vehicle
I have been most pleased with my Hyundai Santa Fe. It was one of the first models of the Hyundai SUV. I was unsure when I was considering buying, because in late 2000 Hyundai did not have the greatest history in the US. After test driving several other brands, I happened upon this one at a local dealership. It really caught my eye and was exactly what I needed. I was first impressed with the beauty of the vehicle when I first spotted it in front of the dealership. On closer inspection, I noticed beautiful blue/grey leather seats and interior trim. Additionally, it has all the luxury features one would expect. As I was in search of not only an attractive and comfortable vehicle, I also needed utility. I have a small farm and regularly need to transport large feed bags, hay, bagged shavings, not to mention pet pigs, dogs, cats, and even chickens sometimes. The car also features "all wheel drive" which has come in handy for my purposes. I have not been disappointed and continue to drive this car which is now approaching 200,000 miles on the odometer. The car still looks nearly new inside and out and I frequently get compliments on it.
One Saturday, shorty after purchasing this car, I was attending a small animal sale, where I spotted a sad, skinny goat. The goat went through the sale and no one was interested. So I approached the seller and paid him the price he wanted. The funny part was, I had to take the goat right then. So, we loaded her up (in the back seat) (and she was a big goat) and off we went with my daughter... (more)

They talk about it to this day "The lady that put the sad goat in her brand new car"!
My Santa Fe is very comfortable and attractive. It features a CD player, radio, air conditioning, high quality leather interior, power windows, steering and brakes, as well as "all wheel drive", automatic 5 speed transmission, tachometer, plus all the standard gauges found on passenger vehicles. The size is perfect for me. It has a very large cargo area in the rear with a hatchback for easy access. Also the rear seats fold down one at a time or both at once to provide additional cargo capability. It seats five adults very comfortably and provides a quiet ride. Plus, it is a workhorse.... (more)

I carry large payloads and drive it all over the farm, on and off road. It has been very durable with few repairs compared to other vehicles of its age. It also features a luggage rack on the roof, I've never needed to use it though because the car has more than enough room inside. The drivetrain is the same that Hyundai uses for their buses in Korea which I think explains the longevity. The fuel economy is listed between 18 and 24 miles to the gallon and I consistently get 21 - 24.
One negative about the vehicle is that Hyundai recommends the timing belt be replaced every 60 miles, which is more frequently than most other vehicles.

2001 Hyundai Santa Fe - An SUV that will really go the distance.
My Santa Fe is probably the best large vehicle I've ever owned. It has almost 200k miles on it and still runs really great! I'm not the first owner, but I know the previous owner, and I've met the original owner, and both of them say they wish they hadn't sold the car. People are always surprised when I tell them it is a 2001, because for sixteen years old, it doesn't look or drive bad at all! Last winter, my best friend's pickup had to be in the shop for two weeks, and he borrowed my Santa Fe to commute to his job 45 miles away. When his pickup was ready, he didn't want to give the Santa Fe back.

We had just purchase our Santa Fe when I was asked to transport 15 cats in carriers across the state of South Carolina to a no-kill shelter near the coast. I had only driven it around town a little up until that point, so I was a little apprehensive to get out on the road with it, even though the former owner told me she had gone back and forth to Florida several times in it. The shelter that asked me to transport the cats offered to rent a van, but I felt like I could get them all in the Santa Fe and save that expense. They hadn't seen my new car yet, and my old one was a sport crossover not much bigger than an VW, so the staff was apprehensive when I told them I would take the cats in my vehicle. When I pulled up in the Santa Fe, they were clapping and congratulating me on the new car for our rescue! We got all 15 cats inside and secured safely, and we made the four-hour, cross-state trip comfortably, with the addition of noise-cancelling headphones for me.
The Santa Fe rides extremely smooth -- I've been in Escalades, and I don't think that ride is any smoother than my Santa Fe. Everything -- windows, heat and air, stereo all still work great, the upholstery still looks good, and it still gets pretty decent gas mileage for a sixteen-year-old car. The former owners tell me that both the engine and transmission had major servicing at 100k miles but only because the original owner felt like it ought to be done then -- not because it was necessary due to breakdown.

There is a small issue with the gas tank that makes it difficult to fill the Santa Fe up. The former owner tells me that it's been to the dealership twice, and they couldn't figure out the problem. It's annoying but not a major problem.
