2008 Hyundai Santa Fe OWNER RATINGS & REVIEWS

Wouldn't buy it used
I ran into a bunch of problems with this car that made it more of a hassle than anything. First of all, the suspension had severe issues that turned out to be very standard Hyundai problems specific to the Santa Fe. Wish I had known that before I purchased it. The air bag light sensor was recalled, and the dealership sold it to me anyway. I had to go get that fixed. The inside door handles warped because of humidity and moisture. They started to look terrible less than a year of me owning the car. The vinyl material the inside of the doors were made of was cheap and melted stickily to your hands when it was hot. It was nice being in a small truck. The trunk was decent size. The backseat was rather small. There was not much leg room.

A nice-looking, reliable vehicle that happens to have pretty good gas mileage.
This is an excellent vehicle especially for a family of four. It gets great gas mileage, and in the ten years that I have owned it, we have never had any major mechanical issues with the car. The only things we have had to do for the car is regular maintenance, oil changes, and new tires occasionally. The car handles really well in city and highway driving. I was and still surprised at how much pickup (acceleration) this car has. The other thing to note is than I have driven this car in one of the most demanding weather environments in the lower 48 states. I live in central upstate NY, which is known for its very demanding winters. We routinely have below 0 degree temperatures in weeks at time in the winter and high 90s and low 100s in the summer. This car takes a beating and keeps on going. If you get the feeling that I love this car, you are correct. When you are standing in your doorway and watching your neighbor get their car jump-started by a tow truck and you use your remote starter and the car starts every time no matter the temperature, it is an incredible feeling to say the least.

Not the best
The car drove ok. It was a little too small. It ended up having problems that were supposedly specific to Santa Fe's. It was like a big disappointment in the end. The car served its purpose. The features were OK for a 2008 model. I liked that it sat up high but not too high. I didn't have to climb into the car, nor did I have to squat to get in. The steering wheel was adjustable which came in handy. It had power seats on the driver which was nice, because I was able to pump my seat up to a higher position to see better, and then I could also tilt it forward to reach the pedals. With the adjusting steering wheel, I was able to sit quite comfortably. The radio kind of sucked, and there was nowhere to out an auxiliary cord. It was the worst for music. The trunk space was decent. The rear wipers went out, and the motor ended up being faulty which was another common problem for the Santa Fe's. The seats were tan which was also a problem in the long run. They got really dirty. They showed literally every mark and scuff. The door handles were also tan, and they got dirty from handprints every single time you touched the doors. The material also got kind of wrinkly as if it were wet, but it wasn't.
